Lucifer's Hammer is quite a gripping book.
Right now, though, I'm reading Mitigating Circumstances by Nancy Taylor Rosenberg, it's pretty good so far.
And another good documentary-type book is Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer (pertaining to the 1996 Everest tragedy).

the gossip girl series [5 books] - by cecily von ziegesar (i like the first book best)
the perks of beign a wallflower - stephen chbosky
dharma bums - jack kerouac
someone like you - sarah dessen (one of the books that inspired the movie "How To DeaL")
speaking of book inspired movies, A walk to remember - by nicholas sparks.
nicholas sparks has ALOT of good books. perhaps you've heard of "The Notebook"? and another good one is "The bend in the road", but its pretty long.

I almost got that the other day, but I had about $50 of books and I was running really low on money, so I didn't.
I'm reading I am a Cat now though. It's great. It's about a cat living in Japan who isn't loved, or even named. All he does is watch humans. It's got a lot of truth to it about humans. It's by Soseki Natsume. It's really long to.
The Final Confession of Mable Stark is a great book. It's been fictionalized a bit, but Mable Stark was a tiger trainer from the 20's to the 60's I think. It was great. It's by Robert Hough
Life of Pi is also awesome. It's by Yann Martel. Pi gets stranded in the Pacific with a bengal tiger for 7 months. I couldn't put it down.
