The earthquake struck at around 3:30 a.m. Italian time about 95 miles northeast of Rome. Most of the damage occurred near the city of L'Aquila, the capital of Italy's mountainous Abruzzo region, CNN reported. About 60,000 people live there.

Various reports have the death toll close to 30 and counting. Rescue crews are still combing through the rubble of collapsed buildings, and the death toll is expected to climb, officials say.

that's very tragic. i don't like earthquakes. i don't like any natural disaster really.

yeah, when I read about it this morning, scared the hell out of me. also scared the hell out of my mom. i felt so lucky that i was on a plane yesterday instead of today to fly out of italy. and it scared the hell out of my mom because i think i left my phone charger in florence and therefore, my phone is out of battery and she couldn't reach me.
