i was thinking that i don't understand why lotion costs so much. i was looking at it yesterday and most of it cost like 7-15 bucks. i've gotten the expensive stuff before and i've never been able to tell any difference between it and walgreens 99 cent aloe vera stuff i don't think.

why do you think it costs more? do you see a difference? how much does your cost? what do you use? unless you're male then i probably don't care that much what you use, but you can tell me anyway just for kicks. i wanna know how many people buy expensive stuff vs not.

Oh man, finding a good lotion is my life. I have a cheap ass big bottle of Queen Helene which was okay in the Summer and Fall, but Winter was a bitch because it wasn't hydrating enough, so I bought a $20 body butter from Body Shop which was amazing. I find the more expensive lotions in general to be more hydrating than the cheap stuff, like some Aveeno sunscreen I had was way more hydrating than the Vaseline lotion (not the petroleum jelly) that I normally use.

Right now I'm interning with a nonprofit that has its own line of shea butter body care products (the money they get from the sales goes to funding their nonprofit activities) but I haven't been able to try it yet. My boss has the most amazing skin tone ever so I assume the product is amazing.

^ Agreed with the more hydrating part. Plus, cheaper lotions tend to feel more greasy and I LOATHE that feeling, especially on the face.

going into the body shop makes my head hurt. i duno why. i think going in anywhere smelly like that does.


but, yeah, my gf buys that body butter junk. it doesn't seem like you get much with that when you could get a whole big bottle of lotion for half the price. plus, i don't usually see much stuff that's men's though. i don't wanna smell like mango paradise or coconut dreams very much. this junk i bought yesterday smells like aloe vera and cucumber. it smells pretty clean and fresh.

i sorta wanna get something that's more natural though. it seems like there's too many ingredients with weird names in it.

Body Shop is not nearly as olfactorily oppressive at Bath and Body Works.

And the body butter I had lasted a good... three months? I got it in late December and I just ran out last week.

And if you're looking for natural stuff, the place I intern for uses all natural shea butter, no additives, not nearly as processed, since processing takes out most of the butter's benefits. It's pretty pricey, but it all goes to a good place. </plug>

And ebay's World of Good is a good place to look, as well as Lush.

Careful with Lush though. Everything's natural and it also means that everything has an expiry date (usu. less than a month) and some stuff should be kept in the fridge...which means you'd probably have to purchase more often, which is just a giant hassle to me.

Plus, more so than Body Shop and Bath and Body Works, Lush just makes me sick to the stomach whenever I pass it.

yeah i agree with you there. i don't use the 99 cent lotion on my face. i don't care to spend 20 or 30 dollars for something for my face since shaving is a bitch for me, but i can't really bring myself to spend 20 bucks to moisturize my elbow. i use this junk and it seems to make my face not dry or oily either

i love all of the products from cetaphil. i fell in love with the facial cleanser, and i'm glad i ran out of my biore 'cause i've since converted to cetaphil. their products are great for guys, too, because they don't have weird fragrances. plus it's what my doctor recommends (and other doctors apparently). you can get them at any drug/pharmacy store like duane reade or cvs. price range is between $10-$20.

I know people like Cetaphil, but I just can't get into it. I tried the moisturizer a long time ago on the recomendation of my dermatologist, but my skin had a weird reaction to it. My skin can pretty much handle anything, so that freaked me out a little bit. Cetaphil and Ambi are the only things I've ever had that sort of reaction to.

What about Vaseline?

i definitely hate having weird reactions to anything. my skin could stand a lot, too, but for some reason it hates neutrogena.

i know another friend of mine can't stand cetaphil. so far everyone in my family likes it, and my boyfriend's family uses it, too. in fact that's where i first tried it out. so maybe just try a sample before buying the huge ass bottle haha.
