*Sorry if this is in the wrong forum!*

I'm looking to buy photoshop CS2 or CS3. I know it costs a LOT but I'm willing to spend the money. I have looked at several places but I don't thnk that it's cheap enough for me. If there are any Photoshop elements that cost less than $70 online please give me links. I need some help. THANKS! :-)
JackRapington
photoshop 6 or 7 are like $100. It's the first thing I used. I think you can find it at walmart if not then best buy for sure.

Its better not to look online and actuall go to stores.
Have you used the gimp?
theerinkal
I use photofiltre more because it's easier to blend with (at least for me) I'm still looking at the tutorials on her on how to blend with GIMP.

But yes I do use Gimp sometimes
wwwww
Well first: Warez for free. But I'm not helping you with that.

Second, you can try a freeware version like GIMP. The only thing GIMP lacks is the pen tool.

Third: Student discount. If you're in college, or sometimes even high school, you can get a huge discount on it.

My uncle and aunt are actually thinking about buying CS4 and then giving me CS3. but it's been like 5 months and they still haven't made up their minds.

photofiltre is awful.
If you dont know how to blend in gimp you dont know how to use it. If you get good at gimp you wont need photoshop.

Watch some tutorials just about learning the basic and what the tools do.
Gimp is better than photoshop elements. Photoshop 6 or seven is probably better than gimp though.

Student discount sites are the best way to go. I can't think of the name of the one site I bought Corel Painter from, but the price went from $400 to $100. I'm pretty sure they just wanted my high school ID and some other basic information.

I think it depends on how serious you are about design. If you're more advanced in your designing or you plan on taking courses (or even pursuing a degree) it's a good investment. Judging by your profile you're quite young, so if you plan on taking classes when you're in college wait to buy it so that you can buy something more current when the time comes. On the other hand if you're not very advanced, free programs are the way to go. You'd be surprised at what you can do in GIMP and there are a lot of tutorials for it. If you can't blend in GIMP, then you'll probably have trouble blending in other programs.

photoshop elements for under $70: link

cs2 will be around $300, cs3 around $500-$600. or, you can always search sites for OEM software; OEM is usually much cheaper because it doesn't come with the box (honestly, the box hikes the price up about 40%).

Gimp's pen tool counterpart is the path tool. The first vectors I designed were done with that program and they came out pretty well. But yeah, I agree with Dee. If you can't even blend with Gimp, I doubt it'll be any easier with other programs. Just use the lasso tool, make a selection, click on Select up top then select Feather. Enter how much you want it to be feathered by then delete away.

I do plan on pursuing a degree. Most likely a bachelor's degree.

Wow! Now that's stupid, but hay, that's how the companies work.

So you're saying you're good at Photoshop, yet you can't blend with other programs? If you can do it on Photoshop, you should be able to do it on Gimp since Gimp is based on Photoshop (along with a few other programs).
Maccabee
Then get good at GIMP! I was also good at photoshop and not gimp ata time but then I bended myself. Now I can do more stuff, better and faster in gimp then I ever could in photoshop elements.

In my opinion photoshop is easier than gimp and photofiltre and a lot less complicated. Probably because I took a class and was taught how to use it and these I have to do my own researching and read the tutorials on here.

But not within the next year or so... so if you really want to use Photoshop just find a place online and download it or keep using GIMP (read up on some tutorials). If you buy Photoshop right now by the time you get to college there will probably be a new version, so just wait until then, and use a student discount.

PS is only easier cause you have experience with it. If you use gimp until you have experience with it then it will be easier. And photofiltre sucks. There arent even layers.
JackRapington
I am not going to lie PS > everything else. I have used Gimp and psp before. But I never did liked gimp.

I agree though, that you should use gimp now, and wait till you get to college so you will have an updated version.

just be glad unisys doesn't come after you with a $5,000 licensing fee. GIMP doesn't pay to allow development of GIF files, so if unisys finds GIFs on your site that were created in GIMP, they have every legal right to send you a $5,000 bill. ;)

^lol damn

Hey,
There are many sites that provide tutorials for Photofiltre.

Really good tutorials:
Hopeless Thunder . Over 30+ tuts

You can always upgrade to Photofiltre Studios, which has layers and other neat stuff. But yes, GIMP is good too.

The patents on the compression technique used by GIF have expired; the format can be used freely now.

I didnt even understand his post but im glad. haha.
I wouldnt never upload a xcf file to my site anyway. I would upload a PSD for other photoshop users. Psd can also be opened in gimp by the way.

tbh
I find CS2 easier to use than CS3 or CS4
Try getting CS2 - since it's older, it'll be cheaper.
Cyanide-
Try office max for photoshop. I was just in there not to long ago and i remember seeing it there. I dont really remember the price though.

Well, honestly, I've used photofiltre before and it sucked. Then, I used photofiltre studios and it was a bit better but it still wasn't great. I haven't really tried GIMP but I heard that it's actually pretty good for a free program. Overall, I do agree that PS>everything but you could also try getting PSP which I once saw for like $150 at this one site but I can't remember. So, I guess since you have a website, you should seriously consider paying a bit more to get PS or at least PSP. Those two are probally the best for myself. thumbsup.gif
