Full Version: Wale

He's had an underground buzz for the past year or so, and a lot of industry heavyweights are co-signing him (The Roots, kanYe West, Swizz, 9th Wonder). He's not overly lyrical, but I like is flow, his delivery and his pride in DC. Check the link.

Aw, Wale. I love that he's getting attention outside DC. You know what's sad? I've never seen him in concert.
brooklyneast05
i ran across him a couple of years ago on myspace and liked some of his stuff. he does have a nice flow that's fun to listen to. i haven't kept up with him as much as i should have but i'm glad he's getting some attention.
hi-C
WALE! That's my name don't forget it, not a game, hide your dame cuz my thang's something vicious.

Back to the topic at hand, I think his Mixtape About Nothing was one of the best albums released all year. Concept albums can be kind of lame, but this was alright. And the instrumentation!

I expected the both of you to respond to this. I've heard of him, and I've heard a few of his verses before. I just... never really paid much attention to him. Lately, I've come to the realization that my favorite core of emcees won't be doing their thing for much longer. I was listening a DC mixtape and all the new, up and coming emcees that were featured showed some serious promise. Wale just stood out to me.

this was the first wale song that caught my attention

hi-C
Aw, from the Paint A Picture mixtape. He's come such a long way since then, it makes me proud. I think that's why I like Mixtape About Nothing so much. It's the kind of mature album that I knew he could make.

Wale featuring Bun B and Pusha T, "Back in the Go-Go"

The Roots featuring Wale and Chrisette Michelle, "Rising Up"

Rising Up has one of the most amazing beats I've ever heard.

The first song from Wale that caught my attention, and still stands out, is Nike Boots. I think the video really put me on. A lot of rappers don't rep their cities as well as they should.

I heard about this mixtape a while ago, though admittedly this is the first time I'm hearing it, its pretty tight.

I'm betting I'm not someone you expected to hear from on this (lol) but I've been really liking him. Mixtape About Nothing was definitely my favorite hip hop album of 2008.

Haha, fan might be a stretch, but I definitely have a much greater appreciation for it now that I used to. I'm picky, but there's some I really like.

Then it's only a matter of time until you have, at least, 2,000 songs in your music library that's quality hiphop.
KINGdinguhling
check out his smile remix, i was on that song all last year
hi-C
MTV is doing a whole big DC Week and you can watch Wale perform live with a go-go band, I'm assuming it's UCB (Un-Called 4 Band).

Is he gonna go mainstream? I have a rule that once an artist leaves the underground and goes into the mainstream industry I stop supporting them and listening to them.

wale and 9th wonder mixtape dropping soon ohmy.gif

i'm a huge 9th wonder fan.

^I've been listening to 'Riding In That Black Jo' like crazy. I cruise through Chinatown bumping that. I like seeing people point and get excited because someone is bumping a hometown artist. Far too often do artists get overlooked by the local populace until they make it big and start shouting out their cities on a national scale. *smh
hi-C
What do you guys think of "Chillin'?" I love Wale, but I hate that song.

He can do so much better. I'm not overly against the song, though.

(just like how I can tolerate 'Drunk and Hot Girls' when in the mood)

What? I don't understand why you have such a profound hatred for the song. _unsure.gif

I don't either. I just *hate* that song. Like beyond the point of rationality.
