Full Version: Extinct animal, fully resurrected by cloning.

QUOTE
The Pyrenean ibex, a form of wild mountain goat, was officially declared extinct in 2000 when the last-known animal of its kind was found dead in northern Spain.

Shortly before its death, scientists preserved skin samples of the goat, a subspecies of the Spanish ibex that live in mountain ranges across the country, in liquid nitrogen.

Using DNA taken from these skin samples, the scientists were able to replace the genetic material in eggs from domestic goats, to clone a female Pyrenean ibex, or bucardo as they are known. It is the first time an extinct animal has been cloned.

Sadly, the newborn ibex kid died shortly after birth due to physical defects in its lungs. Other cloned animals, including sheep, have been born with similar lung defects.

But the breakthrough has raised hopes that it will be possible to save endangered and newly extinct species by resurrecting them from frozen tissue.

It has also increased the possibility that it will one day be possible to reproduce long-dead species such as woolly mammoths and even dinosaurs.

Full story here.

Thats horrible.
Man trying to take the place of God.
What has the world come to.
itanium
Explain your logic.
Maccabee
I do often wonder if its not all bad and its only science but by cloning living things man is trying to take the place of God by making life.
Also in what seems to be a very unatural proccess and not the way god meant it to be.
itanium
Mitosis isn't natural? It's like a second birth for that animal.
Maccabee
Is mitosis cloning?
I just think its wrong.
If an animal goes extinct its part of nature.
Because im a christian i believe that when the earth was made animals were made and then animals had sex to reproduce. And that was just nature.
Not get cloned?!

Not necessarily taking the place of "god" but more or less doing what "god" won't and hasn't done, which is let certain species die off.

Man makes life all the time. It's where babies come from.

Anyway, this is really, really, cool. I think it's great that they could (potentially) use this to help save endangered species or to bring back Littlefoot.

Mitosis is cell division.

When the Earth was made over several million, or possibly billion years, it was nothing but a cloud of poison.

And what about Parthenogenesis? There are a decent number of animals that use parthenogenesis. And budding, and other forms of natural cloning.

Saying artificial cloning is wrong is like saying artificial light is wrong, because they aren't natural, or what "God" intended.

I think its just part of nature. Maybe if humans had taken care of the earth better as God commanded it wouldnt happen but it life.
If man hadnt sinned God wouldn't have sent the flood which gave us seasons.

Exactly but cloning isnt natural. reproduction through "sex" is.
But its just my opinion! Maybe man is meant to do it to help preserve the life God made.

And when God made the earth which I believe to be 6 thousand years ago there were no seasons. Its was the same temperature consistently and it didn't rain. Water came up from the ground and hydrated plants.
And I know the bible.

I think it's great, but then I wonder if we get rid of the danger of extinction if we will just say "F*ck it, cut down the forest and pollute the sea. It's impossible for things to go die off so why the hell not?" And then the earth is all jacked and there are mutated goats running around.

I wonder stupid shit.

Not six thousand. 4.4 billion.

Water didn't just appear, that defies every aspect of science, from crap it actually involves to zoology. Have you ever heard of the law of conservation of matter? Water formed when Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide atoms bonded together to form water and carbon.

There were no plants 4.4 billion years ago.

Creationists are people who believe in the theory that "God" created the earth in seven days, and evolutionists are people who believe in ideas proven by science.

If your dog and other little dogs where getting beaten up by humans, would you just sit there and let them beat him up until your dog and the other dogs die, or would you do something about it?

Thats just a stupid question? Cause of course i would. not sure if its quite related but it seems that people who are debating over if God is real say how come God let my grandad die if he can heal people.

Cause people cant live for ever and its life!

I just dont see how you people think that these atoms merged by chance suddenly. where did seeds come from? the first animal. someone had to start it! evolution isnt proven! TAhere are so many missing points. Even the guy who "made up" yes "made up" evolution didnt believe it! He realized that the possibility of all those things happening was so unprobable.

Carbon
More carbon, made single celled organisms, evolved from there..
Pressure started it.

Aren't you like 10 years old? And home schooled? And seem to have been raised in a pretty religious house hold? You don't know everything, or lots, about the theory of evaluation, so I wouldn't debate on it too much. And it's improbable.

You would let a dog die? Your pretty heartless, and i understand people can't live forever, but there are some things "god" could prevent, apparently he has powers, but it doesn't seem like he is too willing to use them, and i'm not saying just letting people live, im talking about other things.

The question is... is cloning such a good idea? Not only with Dinosaurs, which I'm sure sometime in our life time we'll be able to see a live cloned dino. But with humans... I wonder how that could impact us as humanity in the future/down the road. You guys should watch "The Island". Good movie wink.gif

It's a fine line of ethics. Should scientists be cloning organs? Of course; there's a long, ever-growing list of people who are deathly ill and in need transplants. Should scientists be cloning recently extinct or very very endangered species? I think so. Should scientists be resurrecting mammoths? It'd be kind of cool to see a live mammoth, but I think that's when it starts to verge into being obscene and scientifically, socially, and ethically irresponsible. Should scientists be resurrecting dinosaurs? Hell. No.
