no he doesn't. that proves nothing. he was a christian and he gave gifts. that doesn't mean he's jesus.....if he was jewish and he gave gifts around hannukah, would santa be a jewish thing and moses be a christian thing?...

I know this is kind of off topic, but Easter, from what I've learned, was created to celebrate the ressurection of Jesus and they have eggs to signify a new beginning. The easter bunny has nothing to do with any of this; I think he was created so that children who didn't understand the full story of Jesus would have a more friendly character to look up to (fuzzy wabbit) and is probably in no way related to Jesus at all.
This debate is about whether non-Christians should celebrate Christmas. The point of Christmas is not Santa; the birth of Jesus is mainly what people are celebrating. But from what I understand St. Nicholas was a Christian who was generous and literally a saint so he was the perfect person to honor on that day and people honor him by giving each other gifts (like he did). I'm not even Christian, so correct me if my facts are wrong.

What are we supposed to do? Reject presents from people?! Come on, it's a present...

It would be rude to not give a present back, right?

They aren't really "celebrating" unless they go to Christmas and/or Easter parties, or dress up in a big santa/bunny outfit and eat cookies and candy all day.

How many athiests do you know that do that? Hmmm....

I'm not christian. I think the stories in the bible are well, just stories. When the holiday time comes, I get presents anyways because it's the holidays and not because of Xmas. We never get a tree or anything. We just get presents randomly at the end of the year. My brother get's presents on xmas day because it's his birthday.

When I first saw the title I thought you were talking about heaven and hell. You can't have both heaven and hell either. It's one of the other. Only one of them can exist. If you flash a light into a dark corner, there is only light, not dark.

Well it's kinda like a non asian celebrating chinese new year, I have nothing agaisnt it. And I think people have the right to celebrate what they want despite their religion or race.

Well, I celebrate Christmas because I enjoy being around my family on the holidays. If they want to give me gifts, I'm not going to stop them. I give other people gifts as well, to show my appreciation of them and my love for them. I do the same on their birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving and Halloween. I don't consider myself a Christian nor do I call myself a believer. I just like to show others that I love and appreciate them, is all.

I have a problem with braggarts as well. I hate it when people are constantly showing off their new, expensive things or just being an a-hole because they have things. Things are not life, materialism is a disease. That's how I feel. Any person that thinks that Christmas is just about the gifts is missing the point.

My parents are Muslim so I celebrate Eid. But my friends give me "Christmas" presents since they're all Christian.

I kinda agree with you in some ways like how people insult Jesus and then celebrate Christmas. That pisses me off. But I'd do egg hunts anyday, even if it weren't Easter.

A christmas tree ISN'T a Christian thing.

The tree has NOTHING to do with Jesus being born the 3 wise men etc. etc. etc

This is funny because Christians celebrate christmas but not to celebrate the birth of jesus christ but to recieve presents. Ive never heard a christian man/women say Happy Birffday Jesus when the Clock turns to 12[am] pshhhhhhhh dont be a hypocrite everyone celebrates christmas for the wrong reasons.

BlOnDiEcHiCk- note that like halloween, which the church placed all saints day as the next day to make halloween the eve of all saints day, the church placed christmas on december 25th to obliverate another pagan holiday.

there are two possible reasons the early church did this

newly converted christians couldn't celebrate thier old holidays anymore

pagans would convert more easily because they could still celebrate thier old holidays, but under god's name.

i only read the original post, but I take offence to the fact that ur basically saying that you're either christian or agnostic. im jewish. well...sort of. but thats not the point. theres tons of religions, but only christmas is openly supported and celebrated. u want nonchristians to stop celebrating christmas? then take all the christmas trees out of the stores....as well as anything christmas related out of public property.

I'm not actually suggesting that we do that....just to make that clear. I like getting christmas presents. No store has a Hannukah sale anyways
