well, my hair is already straight, but the tips/ends aren't? i dont know, its weird. but i want my hair to be pin straight. is there any way i can do that without damaging my hair? the other day i went to cvs with my mom and bought herbal essences .. the pin straight one x) it doesnt work lmao. i kinda knew it wouldnt, but i wanted to try it anyways xD

i also wanted to get some cheap hair straightener (i figured, since its only the ends that aren't straight, why spend $50+ on one?) and yes, i know that damages your hair but i really want pin straight hair x) but i dont know which kind is good/bad?

You're not going to be able to get your hair pin straight without using a chemical relaxer. All chemical relaxers, no matter what they say on the box, are going to be damaging to your hair. Relaxers go against what your hair naturally wants to do, so, IMO, you're better off without it. If you've never done one on yourself before, this isn't the time to do it. I highly highly recommend you go to a proper hair stylist to get one. If you decide to get your hair professionally straightened, check out Japanese hair straightening (which has results lasting for months).

If you want to get it straight without using chemicals, invest in a decent ceramic flat iron or maybe an electric hot comb, and use products designed for working with heat (i.e. Thermasilk).

If your hair is already naturally straight, just buy a cheapo one. I have a Revlon one and it's been working great. I would only suggest investing in one $100+ if you have more resilient hair, like that of curly or wavy hair. The ghd and Chi are great high end straighteners.

Since your hair is already straight, I wouldn't bother investing in an expensive flat iron. I use one from Walmart and it works fine for me. My hair is also pretty straight, but I use the flat iron to get it stick-straight. I don't use a product beforehand, but that would be the best thing to do to lessen the damage to your hair.

I have a Hot Tools straightener (~$30) and it works pretty well. I've found that the only way I can get pin straight hair is if I wait a few hours after showering, so my hair's already been dry for a while before straightening.

If you're worried about damage, you have to use a heat-protector before hand. It doesn't take much longer. Tresemme is famous for marketing products to protect your hair from flat irons, curlers, etc.

There are other products from Tresemme that do that same thing and also other brands but definitely investing in a bottle of heat protector.

heh, you know what, just forget all about the 'damaging hair' part. i wash my hair everyday &+ i have to blow dry it (to get it straight) and i always wet it every morning and blow dry it straight again (cause when i wake up its wavy-ish.. the middle too) and i realized by doing that it is damaging my hair :/ so its kinda already damaged-ish? lol.


also, if i get a hair straightener, when do i straighten my hair? lmao. i heard/know some people who do it at night before bed.. but when i wake up in the morning it just gets all wavy-ish.. or should i do it before i go to school? [idk if i have enough time though? i wake up at 7 and leave the house around 7:23]

i also forgot to mention that the tips of my bangs curl too ...
what reminded me was that i finished showering and blow drying my hair and i can see the curls from the corner of my eye .... and its annoying me SO much right now :[[[

I straighten mine after I blow dry sometimes, but I usually let it air dry and then straighten in the morning. It only takes around 10 minutes, just crank the heat up to the highest setting, since it's such a cheapy one it doesn't get THAT hot. I don't really care about the "damage" either and I don't use a heat protector... my hair seems fine enough. But you might want to try some anyway. I forget what brand the flat iron was but just go to Walmart and look in the section where all the hair things are lol... It might have been Revlon or Conair and I think it was $30 or less :P I bought it so long ago so I don't remember too well

Never ever straighten your hair while it's wet or even REMOTELY wet unless your straightener is meant for that. If you're going to straighten your hair after you shower, make sure you dry it completely. If you're blow-drying, finish off with cold air to make the hair cool again, or the hair straightener can't do its job to the fullest. If you have time, blow dry your hair with a paddle brush after you're done straightening with cool air to cool your hair some more so it retains the straightness.

If you're just going to straighten the tips of your hair (which is where I presumed you had the waviness), it won't take that long in the morning.

When you get a haircut with a razor instead of scissors. Using a razor allows for thinning of the hair and not just adjusting length.

meh, it's straight for a week after i get it razored, then my ends tend to curl however they like. my hair used to be super straight before i started getting it razored. word what gigi said, you do not want to straighten your hair when it's wet because that's pretty much steaming your hair and your hair isn't a fabric.

i use the chi to straighten my ends but i didn't buy it. you don't need to spend 100 dollars on a straightener especially for your ends, but i'd suggest you buy one less than $50 dollars, one in the $20 and above range.

also, there was one of the brands i didn't like... i'm positive it was revlon.

I would suggest buying a straightening serum, such as Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum, put it on your ends and straighten it. Just make sure you're not crushing your hair when you straighten it - that makes your hair more frizzy and less likely to be pin-straight.

This is a ceramic iron without the price tag-- it's pretty amazing. My hair is annoying and doesn't listen and this one tamed it. Paid about $50 for mine.
