Today is a weird day at school.

I did an unintentional experiment about self-image.
Today i looked decent because i had a new haircut and slimmer jean while i was wearing my typical converse shoe and sleeve. Before that, i was wearing bad jeans and had an nasty Asian afro hair. i looked hideous.

with this fresh, new, and clean look, people are noticing me more. my tshirt design was selected to represent this 2008-2009 club tshirt. when i was performing a piano recital in front of everyone, i heard more claps than ever. People actually start talking to me in my classes, joking around, and giving me attentions. My teacher passed by me to say,"hi". All of this happened today. mellow.gif

THIS.IS.SUCH.A.WEIRD.SUPERFICIAL.DAY.EVER.

what a world we live in ...

Do you ever had a day when you receive more attractions and attentions just because you looked different or better?
Gigi
Sometime around 11th to 12th grade, guys started opening doors for me. I mean, everyone does keep the door open usually when someone is close behind them, but every once in a while I come across a guy who opens the door fully and waits for me to go first.

I'm not one of those bitches who gets insulted at chivalry, but it still feels sort of weird that it happened out of nowhere, and I'm not really sure why. But I'm thinking it has something to do with image.

Haven't really noticed any difference with girls/friends/teachers though.

I do get a lot more stares when I get a new haircut, like the time I got bangs, but it could just be because I looked so different, not because I looked any better.

AY, girls like you make confuse me, 'cause when I'm working with girls I can't decide whether I should open doors for her out of politeness/chivalry or let her open the door herself to respect her independence.

Gigi
^ Go for the happy medium, like, just keep the door open but don't open it FOR her. I think that's just common courtesy though, I would do it for anybody. If you do open it for her, then a girl who doesn't like it will obviously be insulted, but a girl who doesn't mind it (someone like me) will still feel a little bit weird. It's always a bit awkward, maybe that's why girls don't like it. But I just say thank you and go in. I mean, get a grip, he's just opening the door, not making a move on you. shrug.gif

Generally I go for the "whoever gets to the door first" rule. If I happen to get to the door first, I'll open the door for myself and keep the door open for the guy. If the guy gets there first and he's not a jackass then he'll go in first and keep the door open, or he might just let me go before him. I don't mind either way. I would never get to the door first, wait for the guy to catch up, and EXPECT for him to open the door.

Ha ha word, that sounds about right

I really think it's a mental thing. When your satisfaction and perception of yourself is higher (i.e. today w/ your haircut, etc), your awareness increases, you carry yourself differently, etc. So of course, people are going to notice and react; in turn, you're more aware of these reactions towards you, thus you feel like you're on top of the world.
Joanne
^ That's exactly what I was going to say, but in better words haha.

I don't think I've ever really experienced/noticed that I got more attention because of how I looked... but yeah, whenever I feel good about myself I just end up having a better day.

people treated me different when i started lifting. after i made significant gains. i've definitely noticed that....

but sometimes i get bullshit comments from girls now, that i didn't get before... _dry.gif

"you work out too much" "in the gym AGAIN" i had a girl assume i was all big headed and shit before she even knew me. wtf is that shit about? lol im just goofy old evan, all the while i still think im the skinny guy with a lot of work to do. yet it seems some chicks have some weird ass baggage about stuff i didn't realize before... very interesting.

lol like one time, i was at the gym with this girl i met not too long ago,

i was in the free weights and she comes over

her: "why are all these mirrors here, i would hate all these mirrors around while working out"

me: you should see it here when its busy, there's lots of people who loooove looking at these mirrors

her: yeah right i bet you love these mirrors around, i bet your just like them.

me: haha... _dry.gif no (is what i was thinking) but i just ended up saying something sarcastic.

and then we went to wendy's, and she would make comments like "can we eat here, or are you gonna have to run it off?"

my mouth said "ill have a baked potato, and have a little jog around the restaurant and ill be good" but my head was like " _dry.gif " it got really annoying lol i dunno.

[/end rant] sorry cb. ill stick to my one line posts.
Gigi
^ I do know this guy who makes it a habit to mention, at least once a day, that he works out. And we absolutely don't give a shit. Not to mention if you look at his actual body...there is nothing much to be proud of. That's like the exact opposite of your problem though. I do do the whole "are you going to run it off" thing to my brother because he's such a girl about keeping his figure laugh.gif
AngryBaby
like i hate even mentioning that im at the gym, the only time i do is when im at the gym and i get a text saying "whacha doin!?" im like " _unsure.gif ". like i don't want stupid people thinking "oh he likes saying he's at the gym cuz he thinks it makes him looks cool" or something like that. stupid. if im at the gym, sorry im at the f*cking gym. i work out, take it or leave it, in 45 minutes ill be GONE.

Gigi
LOL

console.gif There, there.

At least a guy who works out is more attractive than one who chooses to stay at home and do nothing.

Tung
Ay evan, how do you go about working your lower arms?
AngryBaby
as in....forearms? lol
Tung
yes, forearms.
AngryBaby
lol well most exercises that you'll do will indirectly hit the forearm in one way or another, but if you want to hit it directly, and more precise, there's a lot of efficient exercises for the beat makers.

here's an article of some http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/forearm.htm

victor martinez also has a badass routine for forearms. its kinda hard to explain honestly. so here's a video of him doing it, (it SHOULD be this video)

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/eastcoast6.htm fast forward towards the end (unless you want to see his whole badass routine) to see the forearms.

I agree. When I think I look like shit, I think people look at me bad or whatever. But when I think I look good, I feel like I get decent looks and such.

Yeah okay. Are you seriously saying that when somebody says "Oh look how pretty you've gotten" or "you look pretty today," you get pissed off because it naturally implies that you used to be ugly? I hate it when people say "Oh so does that mean I looked like shit yesterday?" because that's obviously not what they meant. Even if it was, so what? Maybe you did look like shit before.
Firstly, in that moment, I wasn't pissed off. Nor am I pissed off about it now. If anything, I thought it was kinda funny. But you can't deny that the way the woman's statement was worded was very awkward. Secondly, I've never thought myself ugly and I'm sure the people who thought that didn't either. Chubby though.

Why are you getting defensive/mad?
bcktthftr
haha, i'm not getting defensive nor mad.
Blyat
I was like that too
all of middle school i was to shy to talk and i was an ugly duckling, and quite wierd
no one respected me and people loved starting rumours shit like that and i was trying to be preppy/goth and not being myself

but highschool hit and i realized "hey im going to be myself" so the firts day of school i dressed the way i like and cut my hair short
i gave out my opinion and basically showed that i wont give a shit to what you say (still shy but also outgoing)
i got a lot more respect from people and the guys that never talked to me
the girls who picked on me are nothing now and i hung out with upperclassmen the whole freshman year

AngryBaby
yo did you check out the links? haha
Tung
Naw not yet. It's finals week for me, so I haven't looked up on those links you gave me. I been working out my biceps, triceps, basically upper arm, etc for the past two months. And I realize, that my forearm wasn't getting muscular as the rest of the arm, so that's why I asked you this. I'll probably work on the forearm this winter break. Thanks for the links though fo sho. I'll probably look at it this weekend.

I knew upperclassmen because I was a year ahead in my math class, so I knew older students when I got into high school. LYKE OMGAWZ, DUZ DAT MAKE ME A WHORE 2?! NO WAIII.

Anyways, lol I remember when I was feeling really bloated (particularly from taking the B.C. train) and all I wore were sweats (sweat pants + tank + sweat shirt) almost every day or every other day. I lost the weight from it, but I still wore the sweats since I was feeling really lazy. Even my boyfriend said I looked like a bum. This even happened on my 6 year anniversary, where I wore sweats and my glasses. Later that day I changed into a mini dress, wore my heels, and put on some eyeliner and wore my contacts. He was all over me the whole night and kept commenting on how sexy I looked. mellow.gif lul appearance goes a LONG WAY, I guess. sleeping.gif

srsly though I do look like a bum in sweats. I practically roll out of bed anyways. >=] But then again I'm not really offended because I know that I can dress up if I want to. SANDY-KINZ IN STILL RABU U NO MATTER WAT.

I cannot go to the mall in a hoodie or look remotely sloppy as I will be followed around in every store I dare enter.

So going to the mall I have to really put some effort in how I look.Like I have to actually PROVE that I have some cheddar to spend when I go anywhere here. Its really sad...
Just_Dream
Haha I went to the mall in sweats, my glasses, AND my hair tied up in a messy pony tail. Of course I was only there for a little bit, but yea I was mostly standing around. And my boyfriend was dressed up, so it was kind of weird. I felt like a bum after that. :[ Like he picked me off the street or something! lol
