so i got my cartilage pierced recently and i was just wondering how i should clean it? like what should i use? i tried researching online but i've been getting mixed reviews. so far, i've gathered that you can use rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or salt water. BUT every site keeps telling me conflicting opinions on the effectiveness of the three and stuff. basically, one site is telling me rubbing alcohol is a no-no, while another site swears on it (btw, i'm using rubbing alcohol currently cause i found that first lol). so question - what do you guys use to clean your cartilage piercings?

I'd just use a hot saline solution w/ sea salt and use a q-tip to clean around, then soak your ear in it for 2 minutes.

use peroxide, thats what i used when my ears were peirced and it cleaned well.

idk, i have a cartilage piercing and an industrial.

for the regular cartilage, i just used claire's solution, which is pretty much a mild hydrogen peroxide. it bubbled up a little, but healed up fine in the end.

for the industrial, i'm using saline solution. it's a little swollen, still, but i know it'll go down in a few weeks.

I hear the best thing to use is a salt water solution.
I've never tried it but it's supposed to work really well. I use(d) hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip on all 8 of my piercings, but like the other sites said, for some people it is a no-no. It all depends on the sensitivity of your skin. I'd think rubbing alcohol is a bit strong, but whatever works for you. Also, I wouldn't use the Claire's solution since it's so watered down. I also put a little neosporin on the piercing after I cleaned them, but again, some sites say not to do this, so it's up to you. It worked fine for me and my piercings healed really well. Also, if it starts keloiding, you might want try tea tree oil.

The only thing I've ever used on any piercings was Bactine, a first aid solution.

This is what the guy who pierced my ear said;
Use antibacterial soap - such as dial soap. Either the reagular kind of the foaming kind. (I use the foaming kind with a q-tip). Clean it twice daily, once in the morning, once at night. DO NOT touch your piercing with your hands because your hands have a lot of dirt and bacteria on them. Also, as other people have said, after about two weeks start using salt water solution to clean it along with antibacterial soap.

Do not use rubbing alcohol because rubbing alcohol kills 100% of the bacterias and even though we associate bacteria with bad, there are some good bacteria. That is why you use the antibacterial soap because it only kills the bad bacteria.

If your ear gets infected (the bubble effect) you can use tea tree oil on it and the bubble should go away within 2 months or so. (Personally, I don't like tea tree oil because it has a really strong scent that I find repulsive... but I'm sure it works). I swear on dial antibacterial soap and both my piercings (tragus and rook) are completely healed.
