when downloading a free design program they ask for personal info....what do they use that for? can i make up the information besides the e-mail address? i dont like giving personal information over the net unless its a big known company, can i fib?
creole
Yeah, you can give false info. What program is this?
rail01
i forgot which one. i deleted it after it asked for my info.

are you sure its okay, even to lie about the email address?

can i do this for other free programs?
schizo
They may use your email address to confirm something, send alerts, etc., so you probably want to give that. If you're doing something illegally, I would definately not give my address or anything. Well, I just wouldn't download it at all...

if they ask for an e-mail adress it usually means they will send you updates on things.
As for the personal info, i think its for them to see what kind of people are interested in it and what ages they are most interested in it.
but i could be wrong

I always lie on them kind of things. Sometimes they will send you junk mail and what not to your house if they ask for your address. But I always put my email in.

Usually you need a valid email for registration, which helps you get updates about the program. Use a bogus email, or one that you don't really check to often but don't really mind if spam infests it a little. I have a universal email, and then a personal email that I use.

Well if its a free photo editing program then it doesn't matter, now if your downloading a program illegally then yea, I wouldn't give them the right info.

Like everyone else said. If it's something illegal, then don't give out that kind of information. I've never had a program ask me for personal information, besides and e-mail. I also suggest that you scan that thing so that it doesn't mess up your computer.

This is why I made a junk email.
