I recently starting reading A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn.

Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy by Martin Lindstrom

Not loving it, the guy is sort of full of himself and the answers he has for everything is always, "Oh, it's in the brain! *shock horror*" Yeah okay. I kinda knew that after you explained what neuromarketing was for the third time in ten pages. This book could've been summed up in under 50 pages with a short description of neuromarketing and then, just the strange and interesting findings.

I'm gonna finish it but it's definitely not a re-read cus there's nothing in here that someone who's taken introductory Psychology hasn't already learned.

may i asked what you liked about it

i think it was the way his letters seemed like a stream of consciousness and reminded me of the way i write in my journal. i sometimes don't remember the actual words in conversations, but i write down a lot of stuff like he did.

oh and the end where we find out what really happened to him scared me because i definitely was not expecting that.

I'm reading Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States, which is a really interesting take on US history.

(And looking back over my posts, I wrote about this a few weeks ago; but it's interesting and worth re-mentioning.)

I'm reading that for history class. I'm having trouble getting through it, though, because of the writing style. Paul Johnson's book, A History of the American People, is a good book to read along with Zinn's because of the writers personal history and opinions.

Reading The Hundred Secret Senses by Amy Tan. It was a pretty random choice since I was desperate for a book to read from my reading list, but it's actually not that bad so far. I also have to read The Crucible. Ehhh.

Black Like Me - John Howard Griffin

Had to read it for APUSH. I've gotten to the part where Columbus was being a arse to the indians, then I quit reading.

Found out I don't even have the same APUSH Teacher I was suppose to have. B]
So, no AP reading for me<3.

I hate Reading. :(

It's been so long since I've read something that hasn't been assigned, so I'm reading Stories of Anton Chekhov. We'll see how long this lasts.

Shame on me, still haven't finished The Elegant Universe. Hey, it's not light pre-bedtime reading. And I've got too much shit to do. This winter break, maybe.

Re-reading David Sedaris' When You Are Engulfed In Flames.
simx
Well the last book I read was The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. Awesome book thumbsup.gif

Totally true. Distorting your conception of space time and getting mindf*cked right before bed is not fun.

i read that too, but i barely remember anything from it. what did you think

I just purchased Neal Stephenson's The Big U, sort of on a whim. I read it about 2½ years ago, but it's pretty good and a quick read, and I wanted to read it again. It has some good ideas (most of which Stephenson fleshed out in later novels, such as Snow Crash) and I particularly like his style in The Big U. Stephenson isn't actually a fan of the novel (it's his first), and from a technical standpoint it's not that well-written, but I still think it'll be a good book to re-read.

I'm not really reading this, but I just bought my sister (she's pregnant) What to Expect When You're Expected: A Fetus's Guide to the First Three Trimesters. It's sort of a parody of all the What to Expect type books. I heard about it when the author was interviewed on NPR.

I'm actually needing suggestions on something to read, as my library is stale and I can't decide what to read next. I saw some decent suggestions on http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com (I LOVE that site) but any personal recommendations from folks here would be great as well.

What sort of material are you feeling right now?

Something historical, but not Jane Austin type historical. Meaning, a period piece that isn't overly melodramatic. Or I can go with something that's known to work for me, like suspense.

Hm, something along the lines of 1984 maybe? I enjoy stories with dystopian style themes.

Well, another classic dystopian novel from roughly that era is Brave New World; different feel but still interesting. If you want something slightly dystopian, more sci-fi, then Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (the basis of Blade Runner) is good.

You know, with the amount of times I've seen Blade Runner, I'm surprised I haven't read that book. Perfect suggestion. I'll check the used book store this weekend. Thanks, man!
