They mean something is wrong with your system at that moment. When exactly did you get them, and what was going on with your system.

Just at that moment? At the moment I was moving the x-box up from the basement and they came up after I hooked everything up and hit power on the controller. I unplugged it and then plugged it back in, and it works now though.

Oh ok, cool. My little bro freaked out like a little bish yelling and screaming and ish, so I don't know what he heard about the red rings. He said it means your x-box is almost dead or something. Hopefully not eh.
LOL... well I heard that if you get red rings, that you get a free new 360 and free live for a year. But maybe that's just my cheap mind dreaming.

The XBOX 360 ELITE is the SYSTEM w/ ENHANCMENTS that keep it from getting the "RINGS OF DEATH!"<---HAHAHA!
well, my friend had the RINGS and the Way he Got rid of it...
WAS BY DROPPING IT! and it worked! but please if it happens, DON'T DO THAT! the warranty does NOT COVER PHYSICAL DAMAGE!, only TECHNICAL DAMAGE!..

i had two of the rings.
two parts - means that the xbox is overheated and shuts down.
three parts - somethings wrong with you xbox either something missing thats supposed to be plugged or something inside is wrong.
four parts - from what i know this is when your xbox is screwed up and not fixable.
i had the two and three part rings. but i just simply shut down my xbox and it worked the next time i turned it on.

doesn't matter. microsoft fixes/replaces your xbox for free when you get the red ring of death --even if your warranty is already void. just send it in edit: if it happens again.

^well its already PASSED on so you just got to keep on hoping you don't get the rings again..

^ I'm so getting that the day it comes out.
Anywho, if you have the red rings first off take off your a/v cables and power cord out and take a dry cloth and rub off the back, there could be dust or whatever back there and could be a reason for it. (this is what microsoft will you tell you to do.)
Next its really up to you, if that doesn't work and you still have the problem. Call microsoft. If your still under warranty, then they will send you a box and you just pack up your system and send it back and it doesn't cost you a thing, just some time and patience.
Or you can try to "towel trick", I've seen a few people do this and each time it has indeed work.
As for me, I left my system on and went out to eat. When I came back my system had reset itself, and was still on. So I cut it off, then turned it back on, and ta-da red ring gone.
Oh, and it depends on how many coordinates is red, if you have the full ring it could just be a simple problem, if its 3 then its more than likely a motherboard problem. The newer system they have come out with now have new motherboards so they actually don't have the red ring problem anymore, or as much?
Final, if you have the money go buy a PS3 XD They're great.

i am thinking on getting the least expensive one, the 40GB its $400!!!
COME ON! cant they atleast LOWER the price to $300???
more people would want a PS3 if they did.. thats why the XBOX 360 is way in the lead w/ having the 360 SOLD OUT IN JAPAN!

The ps3 is worth it, its the best and cheapest Blu ray player on the market currently. I got a 80gig, and I bought it used for $250. But of course I work at gamestop and this guy was going to trade it in and it was still in the original box and everything, so I bought it from him for the trade in value of it.
But yea, Sony doesn't plan on dropping the prices at all until possibly around Christmas time, but it isn't guaranteed.

What? To buy it from someone that was about to trade it in? I don't see anything wrong with it, I gave him more than the $200 gamestop was going to give him.
And if I got fired for it,

I'd be happy that I got my ps3 cheaper than retail.

HAHAHA, samrt IdeA!
to bad ive been trying to get a 40GB PS3 but my mom keeps on saying no!
ive been trying to persuade her into buying it for me like saying:
"Mom, if you buy it for us, then we will put it in the Family Room so that way we will have a BLU-RAY PLAYER in there and we can watch regular movies on it; Plus we will only use it for when no one is watching tv, and no-one is home.."
I MEAN COME ON!
we are only trying to get the 40! its more then the XBOX 360 ELITE! and it has 120GB on it!
although we saw a 60GB BUNDLE at COSTCO and it was $469 and it was a great deal.. it had:
60GB PS3, with everything it has in the box
USB, HDMI CORDS,
AN EXTRA PS3 CONTROLLER,
and Some other stuff

The Red Rings mean a core hardware failure in the system.
