I had self drawn vans.
I did one shoe with sharpies and one shoe with fabric pens.
the fabric pens stayed better.

Hmm...I actually found this really rad jean backpack from a thrift store.
So maybe you should go thrifting.
And, about decorating it...well it's kinda slow but I'm collecting neat pins and stuff to stick on it:)
And if I feel like it,
I might do some art work with like sharpies or something...

I'm also thinking sewing, patches, etc.

Sharpies fade easily, it wouldn't last much longer after it got wet. At michaels or a local craft store (i believe walmart has them too) there are these things called paint pens. They are genius.
