I really hate how my image in photoshop turn out bad just because when i cut out the person the edges are bad, look at the example below.

Is there a way that I can make the cut more professional?
I use the poloygonic lasso tool, is that the right one to use?
Also I use adobe photoshop cs3 extended.

maybe try brushing it in Edit in quick mask mode?

you can zoom in extremely close and work it off as pixels with the polygon tool or


you can use the pen tool to do the curves.

I personally use the Quick Selection Tool (W) & then after I select everything I need, I go Select>Modify>Smooth & mess with the settings so it's not so choppy.

maye you could like duplicate the psd,
and gaussian[sp] blur it behind the top one,
and add like a glow effect. that might make it
appear smoother. maybe. lmfao

XD i found it but how do i edit it in that mode exaclty, like what does it do for the image, it makes a rubyish opac color over the image but thats all I see. XD maybe im slower then i thought lol.

When you smooth it, make sure you put in a low number like 5 because if you put like 20 the edges will come out really rounded.

i meant you can double the layer of the PSD,
then gaussian blur the bottom layer, to make
the upper layer "glow" kinda, im not sure if that would
make is smooth, but yeeah.

Ah. Well, I know this is kind of late, but, maybe you should learn some masking techniques. Those will certainly make any extractions more professional.

Okay, so, I did this tutorial on clipping masks.

I wrote the tutorial because you can use that concept for practically everything. For something like what you're doing (extracting a person from an image) you can use the pen tool to create the most detailed intricate shapes and fill them in, with any color, on a separate layer ABOVE the picture. I make things incredibly hard and I use the pen tool for everything, only because it is the tool that I feel most comfortable with. (to each is own, eh? Heh.)

Okay, so I know I have completely talked myself in a circle, so, i'll try and use some pics to help explain.



So, I used the pen tool to create the blue areas around her hair. (For the strand effect, I created my path >> Stroke Path >> brush (Make sure Stimulate Pressure is checked) and 'ok'.


Now, once you have covered the whole person covered, you can drag the photo of the person on top of all the shapes, hit ctrl+G on your keyboard, it'll only have the person shown.
