which burns more calories or is a better exercise?

hopping or skipping when jumping rope?

I would assume that it depends on how fast you're jumping rope.

According to TDP:
QUOTE
This activity burns approximately
661 calories per hour for an average, 145-pound person.

And I don't know about skipping.

I would imagine that they would be pretty similar, since the actions are similar...However I think you'd be more motivated to skip since there's something to actually hold and...yeah. I can't imagine just standing there and hopping.

I'm just going to assume that when you say 'skipping', you mean jumping from foot to foot.

I would think skipping, because it's a lot harder than just hopping. And I've noticed that you can a lot go faster doing it that way.

This makes me want to go jump rope right now.

I think the OP is asking whether it's better to skip rope or jump rope, not only hop vs. skipping rope.
