On LJ, there are advertisements that show up on the sidebar and i dont want them there...how do i get rid of it?

You would need to either downgrade back to a basic account or upgrade to a paid account on this page, as it is against LiveJournals TOS to remove the advertisements otherwise.

I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to remove/hide advertisements on social networking sites like LiveJournal. It's how they make money after all.
