Epik High criticized for backward masking?
Recently, hiphop group Epik High has been criticized for the backward masking in their song “비(Be)”.
According to Wikipedia, backward masking is a recording technique in which a sound or message is recorded backward onto a track that is meant to be played forward. It often causes much controversy, be it made intentionally or accidentally, especially when a hidden message is embedded in this special recording. It was often associated to the worship of the devil.
“Be” when played backwards, a single word “Jesus” could be heard. This issue last made its way as a headlines in 1994 for the song “Classroom Idea” by SeoTaiJi and Boys. It had seemed that just like the case for Seo TaiJi, this case of backward masking for Epik High is unintentional.
For the case of “Classroom Idea”, when played backwards, the words “not enough blood” was heard. This had clashed with the idea of protestant idea then. And when Seo TaiJi and Boys‘ song “HaYeoGa” was played backwards, the words “I love Satan” can be heard.
Outside of Korea, other singers have also received criticism for the issue of backward masking like the group Judas Priest. They had a song “Better by You, Better than Me” in 1978, which in 1985 rose suspicion regarding backword masking. The words “Do It!” could be heard when the song is played backwards. Parents of the teenage fans of Judas Priest took the group’s company CBS to court, and a total of $40,000 was compensated to the parents. Another group Queen, their song “Another One Bites The Dust”, the words “It’s fun to smoke marijuana” could be heard when played backwards.

I haven't heard the song, but it's pretty silly. Whoever discovered that one reference to Jesus, which probably wasn't intentional, had too much time on their hands if they played the song backward.
Why would you play a song backwards? Why would anyone listen to a song played backwards multiple times? It makes no sense.

I really like how Epik High incorporated a traditional instrument into "Fan." You'd never think that hiphop could go with that, but they manage it. <3

Yeah, it's pretty good. I like the MV for it even if it's violent. It would have been really amazing to have the Korean harp (what its name?) paired with that song too. *_*

haha the korean harp is called Ga - ya - guem but people spell it gayageum
so many people pronounce it gay-ageum (which makes me mad) lol but seriously traditional music and modern music is breathtaking :]

I didn't get to meet any CBers at the concert :\ Melissa, what time did you get in line? I got there around 2, but I was at the front because I joined one of my friends who had been waiting there since 8:30AM.
Epik High was so good. I love how they did "One" acoustic at first and then turned it normal. "Love Love Love" and "Fly" were fun, and omg, so happy I heard "Fan" live.

I got super lucky. Since the "Will Call" ticket line was the same as the VIP line, we got to go in at the same time as everybody else. I got there around 5pm, but there were only 2 people in the Will Call line, so I was pretty much in the front.
I was really near the front of the stage and almost got killed during the Far East Movement stage rush. >.<
But yeah, it was an AWESOME concert.

Oh, then I probably saw you and just didn't know it since I was second in the regular line.
People kept shoving forward to get FM's free stuff. One girl somehow got in front of me (I was in the front row at first), so I was in the second row for Epik High's performances. I ended up in the third or fourth row toward the end.
