Hey, I just joined and have been loving the photoshop tutorials. Kinda hard finding band myspace layouts (ones made for band profiles not band fan ones) Point of this post is to get our name out there. This is the band I'm in. Check us out biggrin.gif

Hi! I'm CJ! Welcome to Cb!

Ps: Tell that bass player to raise his bass up a bit, hes going to look like a goof, but its better than playing like a goof. And turn his amp up, it may not be your favorite instrument, but its definitely one of the most important instruments.
And theres nothing wrong with slapping with the fingers, but you can go much faster if you use your thumb.

And what instrument do you play?
TheRecreator
haha actually this is funny cause I am the bass player lol.
Originally I played my bass that low cause I didn't know what the heck I was doing when I first started playing. Then once I became better I found out all the "cool" bass players did it (check out Krist Novoselic from Nirvana) so I kept it that way. Most of all though, the way I bass slap is pretty unique (look at around 2:05 at the video) and I can't do it if my bass is too high :/

also, I do use my thumb just not in that certain song. Check out our song "What is it?". really though, we have no songs where I get to slap to my full ability yet :(

Hi I'm a bass player too.

Well, the bass player from Coheed and Cambria slaps very similar. Learn some Victor Wooten. That will help you with your slap style.

And Sid Vicious played pretty damn low too. Look how much he sucked.

I love "Classical Thump" by Victor Wooten
I learned the beginning of it (haven't tried the rest but I doubt I could do it all)
Flea from The Red Hot Chili Peppers has been my main influence. Higher Ground, Stone Cold Bush, Get Up and Dance, Mother's Milk, etc.

are you in a band?

Classical Thump is a hard song.
Higher Ground is probably one of the best songs for a beginner at slap. It's a bit of a challenge, but it's not so hard that only Flea could do it.

I'm barely in a band. I'm the only one thats serious about it.

ah man that sucks. I've been with the guys in my band since 2005. We really want to make this our life. We've just had trouble finding singers so right now our guitar player sings (he can't be heard in any of our recordings yet)
Pick up Mother's Milk, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, all the early albums by the Chili Peppers. Listening to that stuff is the best.
XTC
Those are their best albums.
TheRecreator
anything else by anyone else?
XTC
Primus's Frizzle Fry and The Brown Album are good albums to practice songs from for slap and flamenco. For slap & pop, I would suggest learning some Level 42 bass solos.
TheRecreator
lol no no I meant any comments or such about our music by anyone else on this forum
and yeah I love Primus. We played John the Fisherman as a band once

Are you guys a joke band?
TheRecreator
No, why do you say that?
