I'm going through a real big stage of listening to chilled out, singer/sognwriter stuff right now. You know, lyric driven, few guitars, and whatnot. Anyone else on the same page?
A few current favourites that I would recommend:
Mark Kozelec
Kimya Dawson
Cailin Callahan
Brendan Canning
Mason Jennings
Fionn Regan
Josh Ritter
Karine Polwart
etc.

It happens to me in waves. Every once in a while I'll just listen to Kings of Convenience for that very reason. It gets old after a while though, to be honest. A little too college angst-y for me.
Besides, I listen to Radiohead the majority of the time and most of their material is lyric driven.

Ooh, Rebs! I'm liking Kings of Convenience! The guy's voice is really neat. ADORE The Weight Of My Words.
RockItStudios, I tried Secondhand Serenade, they were OK, a little bit Dashboard for my taste, and a lot poppier than what I was talking about, but still listenable.

Secondhand Serenade is pure shit.
"I'd Rather Dance With You" is Kings of Convenience's best song. I like the rest of their stuff (as well as most of Erland Oye's other material), but that's all that really stands out to be.
Have I forced you to listen to Jens Lekman yet (if you haven't discovered him on your own)? Because if I haven't, I am now.

John Mayer, Sara Bareilles, Secondhand Serenade and Natasha Bedingfield would be four of my many favorite singer/songwriters. :]
