small feet planted at the base
hands embraced the right of the frame,
what should be shaking in the chill - her bones-
were confident and still as she looked on until you woke,
awaiting the answer
the one meant for someone much stronger,
almighty, a higher power.

and each time,
in the dead of the night you woke again
long after she had already gone back to bed.
but it was she who woke you the second time..
her prayer. her love for you, and the one she spoke of.
and she is praying for your soul
that one may take it instead.
and she is praying for your health
that you might live to care for her.
and she is praying that you find that love,
the love she already has but doesn't receive from you
