I think Anya will win. I mean, I love Whitney and I really want a plus-size model to win, but the judges have always loved Anya. And they've always said that Whitney's kind of fake (which I can see).
But then again, Melrose was praised like mad in whatever season that was, and she didn't win. Meh.
eww Melrose...i hated her!
I do too think that Anya will win ... I don't really like Whitney .. shes pretty and all but she does seem VERY fake .. i'd love to see a plus size model to win .. but nah .. def not whitney .. ACTUALLY .. the plus size model from season 8 .. i think her name was Whitney too .. i did like her alot

anya's so sweet! i love her because she's one of the few girls not to shittalk everyone else and she seems like a genuinely sweet person, albeit a little airheaded.

I love how high fashioned she is (without being ugly). But I wonder how she'll look in a CoverGirl ad, not that I think that is necessarily a success/fail for a model anyway, but for the competition...

I actually liked Melrose, and was sort of disappointed that Caridee won (although I also liked Caridee as well). There's something about Melrose that always won me over -- maybe it was the fact that she actually knew how to do her job, even with all the perks of being a model. At first glance, yeah, of course I thought she was a stuck up, snobby little twat. But after I looked at her from a whole different perspective, she became one of my favorites in that season. :)
I agree with Melissa and Deb. Anya is so sweet. :) Besides Katarzyna, I've liked her throughout, as well. Although I am rooting for Whitney, her being a plus-size and all.

anyone watch last night? whitney won, and i was so excited. any other fans?? how do you think being a plus-sized-top-model would work in a industry full of skinny girls? i mean, i know there are lots of plus sized girls, but what about TOP models?

May 15 2008, 05:54 PM
I don't really pay attention to models

I think that it's good though that there have been changes made about not having stick thin models in shows. The sad thing is though, the plus size models are considered the average woman off the runway.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were rigged... I think Tyra is too concerned about the girls being role models than actual successful working models. Whitney would still do a good job though, but in the past... eww, bad choices.

I preferred Anya because of her personality and overall ability to work more. I'm not entirely sure of how much ANTM models actually make an impact on the fashion world. The plus sized industry in general is a lot less fashionable, but there have been a few changes. I think Jean Paul Gaultier used all "normal" people in his show a few years ago...

god, my only hope is that the ANTM will start being more critical and realistic about the models working in the industry. If not, then they stop being great after season 4.

If you think about ti realistically, Whitney'll have few commercial jobs and maybe do something on TV, but she's not gonna book a lot of run-way shows for any big-named designer. It's sad to think about it, but the high fashion world is still very stuck on the size six and skinny girls.

I don't think any of the models that one have won made it big. I've seen Ya Ya in a couple of commercials on TV but that's about it even though she didn't win the show either. None of them have "really made it". It's not like I've seen any of them in a Gucci ad. Too me it's just pure entertainment.

Yes they have; not necessarily the winners; I talked to some Ford Models last summer & they'll tell you that the winners don't really do anything after a while...YAYA has done well for herself...She has been starred in a movie on lifetime & appeared in other movies & now she has a recurring role on All My Children & she's been in a lot of National Ads, Mercedes has appeared in ads as well...Eva drifted toward the entertainment industry, along with Tocarra; they are all over BET & in videos...I mean if you're not necessarily looking for them then you won't see them & that's any model unless they have a major name for themselves...Bre's in ads & appears in shows as well, also the girl Adrienne I believe, the one that was friends with Eva until they fell out appeared in Made of Honor...so yea, models are everywhere, you just have to know who they are for yourself in order to spot them. Honestly breaking out into acting & commercials is better than print modeling b/c the agency only takes 15% instead of 20% & they are higher paying jobs than a runway gig or print ad...Gucci doesn't validate whether someone's made it big or not...Alot of those designers are extremely selective & go for one look only & I'm not even gonna go into that...
Anyway as far as Whitney winning, it was some BS, tehy just did it to say they gave a plus size model a real chance...I think it'll be just like the other winners honestl...In my eyes Fatima would've won if it was between Anya & Fatima like it should've been but they didnt' want that so they switched it up...Anya sounds like she just got off a boat somewhere & her accent; fake or real, irks me, so I'm glad she didnt win

Even though I love modeling & auditioned for the next cycle I wonder the same thing...it's becoming too redundant; you've seen one, you've seen them all...The outcome of the winner is always the same...they really don't do much in the end if you even pay much attention to them afterwards

I thought the same thing. I was unbelievably shocked when I saw Whitney's name come up on the screen! I immediately thought it was just because Tyra wanted a plus size model (which she's stated in the past) to win ANTM. *shrug*

I completely agree. Just because America's Next Top Model broke the norm, doesn't mean that the rest of the fashion industry is going to follow in their footsteps.
I think Anya was really good too, she takes hella good pictures. Her accent and that hella low whispery voice of hers would get to me though.

I hope they do some interesting photoshoots this season. I've been kind of bored by the ones they've been doing lately.
My favorite in Top Model had to be the seven deadly sins shoot, and the final photoshoot from the first season with the oil and the diamonds. It was SO fierce!
