its great
www.TechSmith.com/CamtasiaStudioi've made some video tutorials with it, the qualitiy might not be the best but understandable enough. like i zoom in and all.

I think that video tutorials would be an awesome addition to the site.
The only thing is, with layouts, and scripts there is a way to keep some consistency, with the tutorials that we have now, for the most part, they are images, with some picture directions when needed.
For the people that are submitting these tutorials, would it be you having a desktop camera, or just a webcam facing your pc?
I have watched a lot of video tutorials for photoshop stuff. A lot of them really suck because of quality. Not the quality of the tutorial, but the screencap that took the video was pretty bad.
I think that its a nice idea. Though, a lot of problems with consistency may arise.

this is a great idea, i have 3 video tutorials but the quality is pretty bad since i used my camera to take it. >.<
as thomas mentioned, if you are doing a video tutorial, is the quality good or bad because of the way you did the tutorial? [video cam, camera, screencap]

This was one of the points that I would like to make about video tutorials, this is NOT a tutorial, nor was it meant to learn from. Just an example of video quality.

no, nothing like that, also wouldnt the staff approve it or deny it anyway?

The only problem that I see with this would be the fact of personal taste. Some people like to be able to flip back and forth and it might be a pain for some people to pause a video and click and then play it again.

Plus, not all people can view videos at a fast speed... I should know, because I used to be a dialup user.

Speaking for myself, not the entire Design Staff Team, if Jusun allows for video tutorials, there will be a submissions guidelines that will apply to videos. And there will be a case-by-case for each one submitted.

Dee; there's a small percent of ppl who use dial up nowadays i personally think that it maight be alright, besides there would still be those tutorials with pictures

I'm fine with this, they need to be reviewed carefully. And of course the community guidelines would apply.

I thought you were suspended?

It's academy award winning material.
Suspended? I lost count.
But you wouldn't dare suspend me again, would you?

No? I don't think I am even supposed to, for one they haven't taken away any of your other accounts so I don't think its something I'm supposed to be dealing with, or even something that I could fix since I'm only head staff.
But if I was admin, you would have to watch out

You could just implement a time-limit on the videos to minimize the work. Sure, the videos could be crappier, but would be better for the few dial-up users, general loading time for non dial-up users and would save the mods from doing a lot of work.
Or you could make it a YouTube sort of system, where you just let people post whatever videos they want, and rely on people who actually watch the tutorials to report the ones that violate Community Guidelines. This might get a bit messy, but hey, you guys don't review every single post before it gets approved, and that's how we get Pokeporn spam fests. But it's unrealistic to review every single thing.

I was thinking of youtube, when you submit tutorial write a short description of what the tutorial is about and post a you tube link and when they are getting reviewed a mod will go and look at the youtube video. Because then of course it wouldn't be able to have porn or anything because of YouTube's TOS

why would a CB member include porn on a video tutorial?
and if any one does post porn on it.. account should be deleted
simple enough..

That sounds good. It's a better idea to keep video tutorials casual and not as tightly restrained as regular text-based tutorials, which go under review. Maybe create a separate sub-forum (or a section outside of the forums) where people just post their videos using YouTube BB codes? But I don't really see how that's different from a regular thread that members make about their new layouts and whatnot. And would enough people submit videos to warrant a whole new section?
Oh, and perhaps make it a requirement to include "createBlog" into the video title, and include a link to cB in the video details on the actual YT link so cB can get more hits.

Haha, you just don't understand the mentality of some of the members on here. Come to think of it,
I don't even understand their mentality.
Accounts don't get deleted that easily either. Although I could come up with a handful of people right off the top of my head right now that ought to be.

Deleting the account would be a bit extreme if it was a regular member.
Also I think its better to put your tutorials on Youtube, that means you'll get more hits.
Gigi
Aug 24 2008, 07:22 PM
^ Right, it's a win-win. Easy to manage, and yet you're directing more hits over here to cB.
