Ohkay, I found out about a month ago that I would have to take a math placement test so they could select my math class. The scores range from 15-65, 15 being your intermediate Algebra, and 65 being a class on Matrix Theory. I got a 17 ohmy.gif I had to null a few questions because I forgot how to solve them, and for a few, it wouldn't accept my answer! :(

Did your school have something similar?

They used the program from Aleks.com

Yeah, I found out today that I have to take a placement test. Ahhh, it feels good to be back in school again!

We have to take placement tests for like, everything.

You might wanna work on your math skills...

Yeah, thank god for that placement test. I miraculously did okay and exempted precal. Granted I took precal junior year and AP calc senior year, but I still suck at math...and apparently college precal is way harder. I got where i needed to be by like one point, though.

Yeah, they have placement tests for everything. Basically every core requirement you have, there's probably a placement test for it.

niiice! hahaa, my placement for math at college had me take precalc and it seriously was a lot harder (for me, at least)

i also had to take a placement test for french and i ended up right where i needed to be after high school, so that turned out all right :)

but overall, i really disliked the placement tests because i had to take them at the end of the summer and really didn't remember a lot from what i had learned from high school :/

Can AP tests get you out of placement tests?

ours is called the CPT. you can take it more than once if you feel you can do better and the highest of your scores are used for placement. i didn't have to take it because i took & passed my AP classes in HS, but took it anyway because i hate math & wanted to be sure i belonged in the classes i was being given. wasn't that bad but it got rid of my doubts.

& if you pass your AP tests then you definately don't have to take the placement test (atleast not in the subjects in which you passed), but if you don't pass the test you're basically repeating that college level class (no placement test necessary, but recommended).... but i guess that may vary depending on where you live & the school you're going to.
Insurmountable
Yea I had to take them when I went back to high school for a year. I fell asleep during the math one though and got shoved back in to algebra 1. Which turned into my after lunch nap class >_>

Then for college I had to take like 4-5 placement tests for each subject >_>
Geek
Yeah, I had to do some too. If you passed the AP test, your score should tell the college which level you should be on.

Depends. For me, I think the math one was still required, but some placement tests you could opt out of (English). I skipped the English placement test because I knew I had AP credit. Most people had to take all of them, though, most orientations were before AP scores came out.

We were also recommended not to take the science placement test, and had to pay for the foreign language ones.

Depends on the class and the college, I think.
English, math, chem and psych worked for my college i think.

My placement test for math landed me back to Calculus class, which I took my last year in Highschool.
It was an Easy A but I had a really bad professor. So it was alright to refresh my memory and to get use to the study habits.

The site says that all freshmen have to take the exam, I don't know if taking the AP credit will weigh out the placement test score.

It depends. Since I know you're going to BU, even if you scored a 5 on the AP English exams, you still have to take the Boston University Writing Assessment, which places you in different writing classes.

AP Language scores and SAT I Language scores can replace the placement test if your college requires it. And I believe it's either or for the exam. I think with a 500ish in SAT I Language can place you out of CAS language requirements. I'm not sure though.

What about Calc APs?

luckily my trig teacher gave me a packet to study off of for the math test. it has problems that are similar to the ones on the test.
but it's a BIG ass packet, let me tell you that.
just looking at the packet depresses me. sad.gif
