The New York Sun today ran an article discussing possible food rationing in the U.S.

Since last autumn, in as many as 60 nations “food security” has moved from an issue many never or hardly ever thought about to become the number one issue in life.

Food security involves having and sustaining the supply of proper food sources for entire nations and populations.

The New York Sun article by Josh Gerstein today featured these paragraphs:

"Major retailers in New York, in areas of New England, and on the West Coast are limiting purchases of flour, rice, and cooking oil as demand outstrips supply. There are also anecdotal reports that some consumers are hoarding grain stocks."

"'At a Costco Warehouse in Mountain View, Calif., yesterday, shoppers grew frustrated and occasionally uttered expletives as they searched in vain for the large sacks of rice they usually buy.'"

“'Where’s the rice?' an engineer from Palo Alto, Calif., Yajun Liu, said. 'You should be able to buy something like rice. This is ridiculous.'”

"The bustling store in the heart of Silicon Valley usually sells four or five varieties of rice to a clientele largely of Asian immigrants, but only about half a pallet of Indian-grown Basmati rice was left in stock. A 20-pound bag was selling for $15.99. "

So now we're running out of rice and flour... do you guys realize how many countries depend on this resource from us?... Haiti, by the way; has run out of food. There's Haitians running away from Haiti because of starvation hittin alarming rates.

I personally think that China should stop all future imports of rice to the US.

It's gonna happen... with the Bee population expiring and the natural change of weather... crops of all sorts are shortening. People are gonna start having wars for resources. It'll start within the nations themselves, then countries will get into wars with themselves. Vinni Vetti Vecci.

i don't care. it doesn't affect me. china's going to take over as having the leading economy of the world in the next few decades. kicking the US off its rice export list wouldn't hurt them. and by then, the US will just have to go along with whatever china says.

<,< It'll effect you if your primary diet consists of flour and rice... I don't think you see the outcome of this.

And why glorifying China's economy when they have horrible slave labor? If it wasn't for America... China wouldn't be anything, just a reality check... so if America cut it's import/exports with China.. China would go down the drain.

the rice in my area are now $20 per bag. It used to be $12.

I don't care because I'm not from the US. and I will not be living in the US after I graduate from college. Horrible slave labor? US has slave labor too. More like America would go down the drain if they had nothing imported from China. Why? Because no one wants American goods. The amount of US imports are WAY HIGHER than their exports. The US is f**king screwed and everyone knows it.

Yep... horrible slave labor. Our slave labor is just gettin paid minimum wage, regardless of the job. You know our worldly importing/exporting is all connected by a chain... if one link breaks, so will the others.

oh yeah, because using labor from illegal immigrants totally isn't slave labor and that they totally get paid minimum wage. aren't you anti-american anyways? so what's with the whole defense of america now? scared that you won't get any more rice?

the world doesn't need the US and that's what the US will never understand.

I ate rice last night. I'm contributing to the problem.

Anyway, why can't we just import? That should solve the rice problem long enough for us to grow our own.

I'm anti-neo-American yes. I believe we should all live up to our Constitution and religious morals. But that has all changed. Sadly, many illegal immigrants actually make more than minimum wage. While in China, a lot of your people (assuming your Chinese) are working inside of tin/aluminum buildings where heat can rise up to 110 degrees inside, while gettin paid like 15 cents an hour. Above that, many cannot fall in love nor have families. Nor can they leave the country, nor can they have more than a certain amount of money.

It's not so much that I'm scared about rice for the U.S. It's that rice in general is running out... there's supposedly 60 countries facing this problem and America (the super powered nation) has finally hit that point.

And your right... most countries don't need other countries. But the ones that do, need them for certain resources. Unfortunately America exploits every country it has connections with. We give them useless materialistic bullshit materials for a shit load of their resources. We cause countries to turn into Banana Republics, because of their bountiful resources.

Apparently ethanol is also causing this problem. Ethanol by far was the worst thing we could have thought of for energy.

you know the energy returned on energy invested with ethanol is higher than most, if not all, other fuel.

if you have a better idea for fuel, let's hear it.

ethanol is cheap. we waste it everyday in chem class.

There is better ideas... like used cooking oil.. but our f**kin government won't let our scientists speak their mind!! Listen, there's a new movie coming out, it's about how our governments across the world purposely silence our scholars, professors, and scientists etc..

Watch this movie: Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (2008)

We can even use marijuana as energy -.- but the governments want to monopolize on these ideas and they don;t know how to, that's why people are being silenced about technologies and new ideas as a whole.

We're going to end up like Ancient Rome or Greece if this country keeps going downhill like it is.

News update... on a worst level, there's a disease called UG-99 that's killing crops all over Asia, Europe, and it might potentially reach the U.S., Canada, and Mexico in the next few months. This disease as of now is unstoppable.
