Hey I know you:] from myspace u sang that fray song and I though you were good:]
however to get to the point, some of the crucial points to a web site is being able to use an
FTP program and although PHP is not necessary, PHP could help you a LONG way, I understand you want to reach to more people, but not knowing PHP and FTP can make managing ur site very overwhelming I suggest learning FTP first http://www.ftpplanet.com/ftpresources/basics.htm then download filezilla, I would recommend using freewebs or ripway first then going to a real site. thumbsup.gif biggrin.gif

Well, I wouldn't say FTP was that big of a deal since my first Hostee was pretty happy to guide me along.

However that depends on the sort of host you get.

And as Kevinkatalyst mentioned, PHP isn't necessary, so you can probably start learning that on the side while being hosted.

yea, FTP[ing?] is really easy to learn but u need it because when ur installing cutenews or something, then uploading all of those files manually would be a pain:]

FTP stands for FILE TRANSFER PROTOCAL, basically it just makes uploading files to your web server really simple and painless, imagine trying to upload like 300 photos to ur website, thats going to take forever right? but FTP uploads it to ur site in a few seconds, also not every host comes with Cpanel, but most do like hostsnake.com does not come with Cpanel but if you upgrade [pay] u can get it, 000webhost.com comes with it and its free, but why not choose 000webhost? you might ask, well it all really depends on the space and bandwidth, hostsnake gives you 20GB of space and 300 GB of bandwith basically 1GB of bandwidth means thats 1 million people can view your site without any lag time so 30GB would mean 30 million, this refreshes every month, [sidetrack sorry] okay so cutenews and wordpress are bloggin systems, most people use cutenews if they have a subdomain because cutenews dosent require MySQL, but wordpress requires MySQL and many subdomain host dont allow MYSQL so cutenews would be the better answer. Most sites use it to show updates on their site, since you are a beginner, I would recommend cutenews because wordpress is basically and advance version of cutenews, if your stuck just pm me:]

ripway is in NO way similar to ftp. At all.
Ripway is just a different kind of file host. Sort of like photbucket except for any kind of file.
like mentioned above, FTP is for uploading from your computer (same concept yes, but different method and look) it's the direct directory right to your website instead of giving you a long url like ripway does.
most hosts require ftp before hand but honestly it is NOT at all difficult. just a few clicks, is all.
