Should hair be shaven on the direction of its growth? How do I prevent areas outside the armpit from being excluded in shaving? I noticed that to get a cleaner shave, I had to include areas outside the armpit, but those areas became hairy now. It's very embarrassing to have hairy armpits. Please advice.

I've...never heard of a girl getting hair outside of the immediate area of the armpit! Still, variety - spice of life and all that.
It's usual to shave in the direction that the hair grows - though this is really difficult under your arms and so doesn't really apply. You'd shave with the direction, not against, if you were doing your bikini line, your arms or legs.
As for getting hairier when you shave...it happens I'm afraid. You'll either have to go right ahead and wax the areas you don't like (it lasts much longer than a shave does, hair re-growth wise) or use a product that rids the skin completely of the hair folicle, though I don't recommend these. Other than that, it's a shave a day.
Personally, I try to shave every other day; you feel cleaner for it and once your start, there's no stopping.

I usually shave in the direction of the hair growth the first time, and the second time against it; results in a smoother shave I think

Nair seems to work, and some people use tweezers.

Tweezers on underarm hair would hurt. I know it sounds kinda gross, my hair on my underarms is kinda thick, so I shave often. The hair on my legs doesn't grow fast and it really thin and light in color. I like to use some of the hair removal products, because then my legs feel really good. I usually shave my legs against the way it grows. Make sure you use shaving gel when you shave, it will help keep them smoother.

Maybe it's different for guys? o.O
Basically if you look at your legs, you'll see that your hairs grow towards your toes. For men... you're supposed to shave towards your toes (No I don't shave my legs). I thought this was the same for women.. but then again I think I've seen commercials of females shaving upwards o.o;

Replace your razors
shave the direction of the growth then back the opposite way.
Make sure not to over shave then you will get razor burn or cut yourself. Ouch

I shave against the direction while shaving my legs and such.
Shaving with it doesn't seem to get the job done..

Legs, shave against the direction of growth.
Armpit, you're supposed to shave in all different directions to get it all.

Since I'm not a hairy person; I use Nair every 6 months for my legs & every 3 months for my arms; if I shave my arms I shave in all directions; it doesn't take me long so I'm done in 3 or 4 strokes.

For my armpits...
I tweeze...
Its so much nicer having nice soft smooth skin there and not worry about it showing cuz it doesnt come back dark...
But i shave with then against so its nice and smooth...

I used to watch my mom tweeze. I tried it once. Totally turned me off tweezing in the future.
For my legs, I shave upwards. Gives a much nicer, closer shave. For my armpits, I start going against the direction of hair growth. Then swipe the razor down for everything else I missed, then I shave side to side/whatever angles to get the remainder of the hair growth. Works pretty fine for me. :]
