I've recently decided that i want to become a vegeterian...

obviously i won't eat meats, but I was wondering if people count fish as meat...

a friend who is vegeterian said no but another said yes...

also what can you eat?

I know vegans only eat vegetbles and no milk and eggs...

It really depends. Some people who are really strong vegetarians would consider that fish was a meat, but a more lenient vegetarian would say that fish wasn't meat. I'd say that fish is a meat, because I mean, you're still eating a living and breathing animal and eating the "meat" inside it. >__>. It just doesn't look like normal meat such as beef, chicken, and etc. Vegetarians pretty much eats veggies, fruits, and anything else along those lines. :). Here's a whole list of things that vegetarians/vegans eat. Click here. I hope that helped you out a bit.

i think fish is meat. it was alive once. and your still killing to get it. i never understood this clearly...

Typically, meat is defined as the skin of an animal.Yes, I consider fish meat.

Try reading some of the information on this site, it's pretty helpful:

Also, make sure you get enough protein && everything.

If the only kind of meat you eat is fish, then you'd be a pescetarian. There are a few different kinds of vegetarians you can be.

How can you be a vegetarian, but still eat meat? I had a friend that claimed to be a veggie - she ate chicken and fish. shrug.gif

I toyed with the idea of going veggie...but darnit, I love hot dogs too damn much!

I just recently became a vegetarian. I never ate fish before, and I dont eat it now. But yes, a lot of people still consider it as meat because the fish are alive and breathing. I pretty much eat anything I want except for meat (of course) but I also take vitamins it the morning so I don't get sick from not getting enough. Veggie burgers are throb.gif. I eat a lot of vegetables and I eat a lot of salad. You just have to make sure you don't turn into a junk food vegetarian. And make sure to get some way of getting the vitamins that you miss out on when you don't eat meat _smile.gif Also, check out the cB vegetarian cookbook.

The only kind of meat I eat is Chicken, and occasional types of fish. I think if it had eyes, skin, and was breathing that a vegitarian wouldn't eat it. I have a friend who is vegan and seriously only eats fruits and veggies. He makes chips by mushing up corn and dehydrating them. Crazy.

meat is a fish, but more like a second rate meat,
LoveToMySilas
Well, fish is considered a meat but I'm a pescetarian (which is a vegetarian who eats seafood, including fish!) so you can feel free to join me if you're not ready to stop eating meat cold turkey. Haha, ironic how the word cold turkey is in there when its meat...haha...ha...

There's different types of vegetarians. Ones who only eat vegetables and fruits and non-living, ones who eat that and fish + shell fish and ones that only eat vegies, fruits, and fish.

On top of that you'll be able to eat nuts as well as soy and tofu (sp?).

I was a vegetarian for a little over a year. I didn't eat fish at first but then began to because as much as I tried to get my protein through boca burgers and veggie nuggets and nuts and things, I kept getting soo sick so I would occasionally eat fish.

I started eating meat again because as stated before, as much as I tried to keep my nutrition and health up, I got sick soo often. yuck.

Hmm, hopefully I am not bumping the topic or sounding too much like everyone else here. Basically, whether you eat fish is your decision. Everyone has their own personal comfort levels, and going vegan is done for a variety of reasons.

People may take it a step further buy buying products such as clothes, shoes, and even toiletries that are not made from or tested on animals.

Fish is a meat, but to be honest fish and other sea critters don't really feel anything. Not like cows and pigs and chickens.

Anyway if you don't eat meat but you still do eat seafood then you would normally be called a semi-vegetarian or flexitarian.

Depends on the reason you're becoming one.
If it's for health reasons, it wont help.
If it's for animal rights, don't eat fish, because they feel the same pain as a cow or chicken(or a person).
transcendentalism
If you eat seafood but no other kind of meat, you're a pescetarian.

If you eat dairy products, attach lacto- to the beginning of the name.

If you eat egg products, attach ovo- to the beginning of the name. Lacto- comes before ovo-.

This is a decent reference site: http://goveg.com/

Good luck :)

If you're going vegetarian for health reasons, be careful, I didn't eat right at first and gained 11 lbs in a year.
whoops.
but it's gone now haha

I was a vegetarian for six months :3

Eating veg. is definitely healthier, I noticed a huge difference when I wasn't eating meat. After quitting, I noticed I don't like as many meat foods as I did before.

Just be sure you get iron & protein in your diet that you'd normally get from meat and you'll be okay health-wise.

actually in recent studdies it's been proving that people who eat meat are healthier.

you just dont get the things you need, or not enough of them, from vegetables and fake meats and all that stuff.

by the way, i don't think people who eat fake meat should be considered vegetarians..
like in the sense that they don't eat meat they are
but aren't they supposed to be giving meat up?
it just seems like cheating to me.
i mean if youre going to do something, you should do it all the way
not find a way to half-ass do it.
Insurmountable
"Fake meat" is made from vegetables and soy protien..last time I checked that wasn't meat.

Also, I don't know what recent studies you've been reading, but recently they are saying that people that don't eat meat actually live longer. Considering we don't get our doses of growth hormone that are being carried from the nasty animals that you're eating that are force fed and end up growing so heavy that they break their legs and can't even walk.

I don't know, OP, I think its great that you want to be a vegetarian, more power to you! :D I just hope that you get your facts straight and don't turn in to some people that think, "oh since I can't eat meat now, then I need to find foods that don't have meat..like chips and other un-healthy food". I've seen it happen countless times when people turn to really un-healthy foods because they just don't realize all the great alternatives. If anything go out and buy a vegetarian cookbook, most of them have great facts about being vegetarians and helpful words to help you stick with it.

Good luck.
