This is the CB Book Club! Once a month we will read a new book. The suggestions for books will be rotated among the members. The person who last chose the book will choose the next person.

The second Book we'll be reading is What is the What - Dave Eggers
(Thank You JC for helping me choose!)

Previous Books:
- Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
(Previous Thread)

For those of you that read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close feel free to discuss your thoughts on it.

YAY My boyfriend has that book and I really wanted to read it!

Ahhh must go to school, but discussion later...LOVED Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
brooklyneast05
i liked Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. i didn't like the ending, it was too sudden. one minute things are going normal and 20 pages later the book is over all the sudden.

were we the only three who read it?

i got What is the What today, so i can get an early start instead of waiting two weeks in like last time. it has really good reviews.

you're welcome toya

I liked the climactic ending. He had spent all this time checking on every person and developing relationships with them and then he finally decided to do something about the key. His grandfather motivated him.

"CAN I HAVE A KISS?"
Nothing beats that. At first I didn't think the book was something I'd get into. But It was amazing. Some of the grandfather/grandmother parts were confusing but overall still good.
Smarmosaur
i'll get my but to the city library in the next few weeks.
but what do you want us to do if we didn't read last month's book...?
brooklyneast05
those grandmother/grandfather parts were confusing. i could do without the old people's sex talk.
ersatz
I was confused at first when they didn't really explain who was saying them, but I figured it out later...mostly. The whole airport business was a little fuzzy...they were there twice, right?
freeflow
Yea towards the middle was when I started to figure out who was who. And I think he was at the airport twice because it seemed like they were doing somewhat different actions each time. The "yes and no" hand thing was pretty cool.

So, yeah, I read A Rose for Emily by Faulkner instead. I have yet to finish the recommended book. Anyone willing to share their thoughts on that short story?

I'm re-reading The Awakening this month. I have a feeling I'll be reading it more than three times. I'm in a Kate Chopin mood... forbidden sex with French words. Yummy.
LoveToMySilas
Since I missed the first one, I'm going to head to the library to borrow this one. _smile.gif *heads to catch up*
brooklyneast05
you won't have much catching to do. i'm a whole 12 pages in
SilentLaugh
haha, still reading the first XD.gif
assigned reading got in the way pinch.gif
i plan on finishing it, but im definitely in the second book. ive heard of it before =]
ersatz
I'm 50+ pages in. Right now it's a little...I don't know. Trying to be sympathy-inducing but...it's not getting too much out of me purely because of the presentation. If something wants to be sympathy-inducing, it usually doesn't work.

Let's hope it turns me around.
freeflow
^ Agreed. I'm around that same point.
LoveToMySilas
You know what was weird. I was going to go and borrow the book from the library but on Sunday I was at my friends house to use the bathroom and there was this one book on the floor, guess what it was? blink.gif What is the what.
superstitious
I'm going to read Twilight this month, if that's cool. It should be arriving tomorrow or the next day. I've just been meaning to read it and finally have the chance.
ersatz
Man I am not feeling this book....I get it; Sudan sucks. It's Sudan. Alright. You walked, and people died, and no one knows what you went through. What's the point?

Oy.
LoveToMySilas
I'm currently reading The Stranger this month and have finished. Hope thats okay. _unsure.gif
brooklyneast05
so...i'm still on page 30 or something. i forgot all about reading this book. i'm going to start reading again soon. i'm too busy right now with f**king essay papers.

ersatz
I think us three are the only one reading it so we can just continue this month...even though I don't want to...
brooklyneast05
did you finish the book? does it ever get better?

I'm like 220 in or something? I don't remember. It's not better yet. It's still the same thing. I think he's going to keep talking about this for the next 300 pages....

ugh. i really don't know if i'll end up finishing it. wtf? this book is supposed to be good.
freeflow
Yea I gave up. I thought it was going to be good, from what I read and was told, but I can't get into it at all.
ersatz
Uhhhhhhmmmm...well...I think I'm gonna start reading Fight Club...you guys wanna read that with me?
brooklyneast05
i'm probably going to just have to put this on hold until next month. i've got way too much end of the year work to read for enjoyment the next three weeks or so.
brooklyneast05
it's a shame that we didn't do this all summer long when everyone wasn't so busy reading other stuff for school...damn. if i hadn't forgotten about it until just now then i would have.
postharmony
I would like to join, if it isn't too late. Thanks!
