Alright so recently my screen on my HP Pavilion DV1000 special edition laptop broke. I was going to pay the big bucks to get it fixed but i decided that my processor is out of date and i have a few other problems happening with my computer and I'm not sure as to how much longer it is going to last.

My question is, are there any brands of laptops that with your experience stand out as being good, and are there any that you wouldn't buy ever again.

I need a laptop for basic use. I'd prefer a smaller one, though, becuase I sometimes take it places with me.

I use my sister's boyfriend's Dell laptop sometimes, and it's pretty great. It's definitely good for easy transportation because it's small and light. I'm not really sure about the inside stuff, but it's not bad. It didn't get as hot as usual laptops would get. My mom has a Compaq and I've used it a few times and it's not bad as well. It does get a little heated from time to time, and it's a tad heavy,. I'd suggest getting a Dell or a Toshiba (I heard those were good).

i have an hp dv2000.

it`s "good" in my opinion.

i have a white macbook. no viruses, yey.
it'll be a year old next month. still running smoothly.

Toshibas are the shit.

I have a Gateway, it's alright. Nothing too negative about it. My brother has an HP which is pretty decent as well.

AHHHH, i'm like the only person in the world who has had a problem with toshiba
but yeah, my first laptop was a toshiba and it completely freaked out and kept crashing.
now i have a gateway and it hasn't failed me yet.

asus is the best rated laptop on the internet market.
cheap, two year protection warranty, top of the line parts. great for games and entertainment.

acer is considered the price killer on the market. competitive prices for high end products. cheaper than dell and hp. acers killing the other big name companies by offering the same specs, but for lower prices.

toshiba is expensive, but have a good reputation for long lasting products.

dell is terrible in general, indian tech guys are worthless, and evne the extended protection plan doesn't pay off.

so top brands in my opinion are...
asus, toshiba, acer... and i guess dell.

price wise are:
acer, dell, asus, toshiba.

My Macbook Pro was well worth the investment (ok, I didn't pay for it, but still). It runs just as good as when I first bought it, almost a year ago.

There are low and high-end laptops on every brand. When it comes to technology, I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for (that doesn't apply for Apple, however.) But it's mostly true across the board, and I don't know what your budget looks like. You also have to consider what you want to do with it.

From my experience, I have had Toshiba, Dell, Sony, and IBM. Toshiba has been the best, but I had, like, Dell Latitude 640 or something like that, and it was complete shit. Never get Sony VAIO--those are shit, as well, and their hardware breaks too easily. IBM was a pretty sturdy laptop, but there were a few things that didn't work out with me.

My boyfriend lives by shit like Falcon Northwest, Toshiba Qosmio, and the Dell XPS.

Mmm Asus. That's the reason why my boyfriend got his Asus w3j (I like to call it the wedge) 2 years ago senior year in HS.



I'd be very biased if I said Macbooks are good, since I own one. It's NOT that great, but I love the operating system. Of course I've never tried linux (I'm a noob, afterall ;]) though. It depends on your preferences.

Toshiba is great, one of the best currently, as they're doing the best w/ the vid cards and vid ram. I BM, not so much a fan of :)

^ IBM Thinkpads are one of the most durable laptops. However since they're old they sorta need to be upgraded to keep it up to date.

Durability isn't an issue if you aren't stupid, assuming you don't hold some out of the ordinary job.

^ I know which is why I don't buy IBM Thinkpads. However if you've noticed many users now a days are stupid. Always complaining about their electronic product not working properly. Most of the time it's their own fault. Dropped, virused, etc.

I've had a Toshiba Satellite U205 and a Macbook, and I have to say I like OSX better on a laptop than XP.

eh I prefer XP. I don't like too much accessibility, and simplicity when it comes to computers. Apple products just....annoy me.

You know I've always got annoyed by those Apple commercials with the guy from the movie "Accepted". I sent a proposal to air a commercial where the guy asks "can you right click?" but never aired.

Ah but we're not comparing Operating Systems. We're comparing the computers themselves... <being bias>But then again Macs are the only ones with OS X and I do like OS X </end bias>. Of course Linux does change that... Yea okay I'll end it here.

Macbooks are nice. Nothing wrong with them. The price was right for me, too, as I got a double discount. One for a reason I can't remember, maybe a seasonal discount? The second was a couple hundred off for being a student. It's got a reasonably fast processor (2.4 core 2 duo) and 2gb of ram. 64 mb video card, but mac's utilize their video ram differently than pc's. The 64 on my macbook runs my video games about the same as my 128 on the toshiba.

That's because they can right click.

2.16 GHz is pretty decent if you're just going online, watching movies on it, using it for educational purposes.

But it sucks if you're a gamer, especially for WoW.

2.16 is more than enough for WoW. WoW's major limiter is the video card. Wow was designed to run on single core processors, so duel core processors are typically fine no matter what.

Lol. You get used to all the buttons. It also depends on which class you're playing. Also certain buttons are for out of combat, some are utility, some are buffs, some are for in combat, some are for getting around quicker, some are passive buffs. I use about 15 buttons in a fight, and have about 4 or 5 in preparation for the fight. Oh I also have 3 buttons bound on my mouse O.o

Dude, no. There is no way I'm going to remember all that mumbo jumbo. I even have trouble using the 2 attack buttons (a & b) while playing Brawl (I quit I don't care what Tony says).

myself .. amazing .. of course no viruses ... since I've got the Norton

360 ( very commercial , I don't feel its really effective ) but

anyways ... i still feel and think that the computer is running

great .. but of course from time to time needs a bit of professional

Well if the only thing you have is an HP, of course you'd be partial to it. And it's ultimately the operating system, antivirus, and most importantly COMMON SENSE that prevents viruses... Although some added bells and whistles might prevent it as well.

The only HP I'd ever get is the HP Blackbird, which isn't even a laptop, so I guess that tells you something based on my preferences.
