Okay so I was wandering what the best thing to make graphics would be.
I know photoshop is probably best but seeing as how it is close to $700 It's a little ridiculous.
I only have free stuff right now like Gimp and Paint.Net which can't get me anywhere...
So does anyone have any suggestions for some kind of program to get??

Perhaps find someone who happens to own Photoshop and can copy it to CD. That's how I got mine. And with Gimp, it does actually accomplish a bit. My friend uses Gimp only, and her work looks VERY professional.

Limewire's alright - make sure to have an overbearing virus checker running in the background, though.

if you go to college there is this online store called campusestore.com my friend just bought a suite for 199 it has photoshop illustrator and indesign and they have other packages too, i actually just borrowed it from her
but they have all the suites like madddd cheap there. the package i wanna buy is 300 and that includes everything i mentioned about plus flash and dreamweaver so thats a good deal.
check it out, i am not sure if they take high school kids, this site is usually for college kids, so if you know someone in college just ask for their name and college and if you enter that in you qualify.

If your looking for photoshop try and ask your family who attends the college or university near by. I cant afford the normal price of photoshop but at school they sell CS3 for under 250(something around that range). So if you wanna have the full experience just save up a bit and ask a family member to buy it at the college and your set

Wow what a great post! I never even heard of this place, seems neat though. I may have to buy some stuff

Anyway, uh if your downloading it, just get the trail version for CS3, need a link, ask me I'll post it.
Actually downloading, use utorrentz, just find a torrent and download it.
Or just find a serial code crack and just get a serial code to put it when you download the trail version.

I think last statistic I read was that 48% of PhotoShop or Adobe product users had a illegal copy, including corporations and universities. You are not the only one.
I have the press release from Adobe in a PDF somewhere.

Why not just use one of the
cheaper (or free) alternatives, such as
The GIMP?

Because Gimp horrible! Expecialy on mac. I spent 4 hours just setting it up. If it works for you, more power to ya. I never had any luck with it.

There is a
native OS X version, as well as a similar version called
Seashore.
Anyway, what's so bad about The GIMP (aside from the GUI, which is a bit wonky)?

^That was really my main gripe, actually - it was kind of unpredictable sometimes, lol. Then again I was running it on an extremely old computer.
Guys, not gonna ask again. This is not the place to discuss pirating software. I'm sending those of you who might not have known better PMs, but if I see it happening anymore I'll start issuing out warnings.

For starters it has 'experimental' in the file name. Second I would still have to install X11. Third it's just not as good. Theres alot of functions in photoshop that are not in gimp

What functions does the typical user need that are in Photoshop but not in The GIMP? I mean, really, both programs have a ton of stuff that most people are never going to use.
And if you don't want to install X11, get Seashore. It, too, fits the needs of almost all users (except maybe true professionals).

Well, okay. I think that if you really "need" it (i.e., your job depends on it), you'll be able/willing to shell out the cash for Photoshop.
I'm not against pirating software per se, but I don't see a need when there's a perfectly workable
free alternative available. I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying that The GIMP (or a derivative like Seashore) will cover the needs of almost all users.
