How do you do that purple light effect (where the heart is)? Are there any places where I can find a bunch of tutorials with image effects like that?

There are a few ways you can go about this. One is to do a radial gradient in the place you want it. Just look that term up, and you will find a lot of tutorials.

The other one is to make a circle filled with the color of you want, and then go to "Gaussian Blur" in the Filters menu, adjust the settings, and it will blur a circular shape.

depends what program you are using.

if photoshop then you can use a soft circle.
