So, there are some really interesting questions and thoughts here, but, first I just want to say:

Holy f**king shit, INCEST! Ahhh ha, wow. That sucks.

Now that I'm over that:
How does this speak to our attractions of those who are similar to ourselves?
What does this say about the social taboo of incest and its nature?
Should we ready foster children with more information regarding their situations and or biological parents?
How f**ked up is that?! Do you think they cried, I bet they did. Damn.
MissFits
Wow. Can you imagine finding out your boyfriend is actually your twin brother!

I would cry so bad.

To answer your questions
Incest isn't really taboo (maybe that's because I live about half an hour away from Kentucky?). It's illegal for a reason but no one I've talked to has ever really had a problem talking about it.
Of course you are attracted to people similar to you, if you weren't similar at all you wouldn't have anything in common and your relationship wouldn't last. No, opposites attract is not true.
I think siblings, especially twins, should always be placed together. If that is absolutely impossible they should be placed with families in the same cities and be able to contact each other.
I never understood why files like that were closed anyway. I know a girl that was adopted and she is having a hell of a time finding her real parents. I think every kid has a right to at least know the name of their parents.

I can't even fathom it. I'm trying really hard to, but I just can't fathom being remotely physically attracted to a family member.

I understand to some extent being attracted to someone who is similar, just not THAT similar. I really can't answer the first subject you bring up. I can say that whenever I am seeing someone who is the "perfect match", it never works out. There needs to be some differences to make it work and to keep things interesting. Then again, my siblings and I are very different, so that thought process doesn't necessarily apply to this particular situation. Similar looks? Eh, that's always weirded me out regardless.

The social taboo factor is moot in some countries. However, in most countries there are legal sanctions (not to mention social issues) when it comes to incest. I can't remember off the top of my head, but isn't there some type of genetic mutation if the offspring is a result of an incestuous mating? Or do I watch too may sci fi movies?

I think that children have a right and SHOULD know their genetic history. Besides this fiasco, there are diseases, mental retardation, etc scenarios that could be overlooked with the lack of that history.

there was totally a law and order svu episode on this issue.
totally bizarre.
yiiikes.
Joss-eh-lime
i think adoptions should be open, and sibling shouldnt be seperated
"oh yeah, forgot to tell you. you have a brother. too bad he's not here!"

that sucks though. do they have to get counseling now or what?
jaeman
That's real bizarre, I just finished talking to a friend about it on MSN.

The closest thing I ever came to incest was a kiss on the lips with my 2nd cousin, but we were 7 years old at the time. laugh.gif

Erm, are they identical or fraternal twins? If they're identical, I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't notice how similar they looked.
LoveToMySilas
Wow, I'm always scared of finding out about those things. sad.gif That must really be awkward. I can't imagine what would've happened if they had kids together. pinch.gif Ay-ah. I think foster children should definately know who their biological parents are and their siblings...especially if they're twins. Were they identical?
Joss-eh-lime
obviously they couldnt be identical!
they'd notice they'd look super related
MissHygienic
Well, the chances of that happening are incredibly slim.

QUOTE
"And of course there is unlikely to be anyone more similar to any individual than their sibling."

This quotation is completely not true; just because they came out of the same vagina does not mean that their personality, likes, or dislikes are identical, as well. I couldn't imagine anyone more different than I am with my siblings. So, I'm just going to cross that mentality out. There might have been an instant attraction because they are twins, but it doesn't meant that they are similar. But, I suppose in this case, they are similar.

If I weren't dating my boyfriend, I would also agree with superstitious: that differences make a relationship interesting. But not anymore, as I find that my boyfriend and I are freakishly similar, and we get along perfectly. It's as if I were supposed to be part of his family and not mine (but we're in no way related, thank god.) So, I'm not really surprised by this article whatsoever. I don't even know why the article was even written; a pure waste of space and time.

It's impossible for boy/girl twins to be identical...
