We don't define ourselves as the levels and forms of energy within our bodies. Generally, and philosophically, when we refer to ourselves we mean what is evident through our consciousness and our cognitive abilities. If not for our ability to recall experience, interpret experience, relate it, and imagine it, we might not have any idea of self whatsoever. But, in either case, in most instances, when we refer to ourselves, we mean an entity biologically dependent on energy, but philosophically independent of (in some instances) even our own bodies.
