Okay one thing I can't stand is people that don't dress or act like it is the 21st century. I mean even people that are in their 40's and up can learn to adapt with the times. My friend is one of them. She is very cool and with the times considering her age. I have learned to get with the times. I had a teacher once years ago and yuck what a hair do she sported. It looked so 18th century and this was a long time ago so you can imagine just how awful it was. I mean who was this woman trying to please? She was downright scary looking. Ummmm for starters please realize it isn't the 18th century here teach! wacko.gif It was more like a hair don't. She may have been a teacher but someone should have taught her how to dress for the times. A few years ago I had a neighbour who acted like it was 1970 or somewhere along there. She actually wore pants that resembled bellbottoms. Okay can you say YUCK! huh.gif wacko.gif Get with the times!
icecreamisyummy
umm interesting. how do you dress?? how about you hair?
PiFfYmYpIFfPiFf
I wear jeans and t shirts. My hair is long and wavy but does not look 18th century. I dont know what the outfits were called back in the 18th century but i have seen enough pictures from then and her outfit resembled that. I once saw someone in the 1980's with a beehive do. Behives went out with the 1960's. Also my neighbour used the word "toots". That is a very 60's and 70's term. It just seems out of place to me to use that word.
icecreamisyummy
well if she was an older lady, i think its appropriate. i mean you wouldnt want your grandparents saying, "Ayo what up dawg"
PiFfYmYpIFfPiFf
Actually no she wasnt. She wasnt even 40. For someone that age saying "toots" seems odd.
icecreamisyummy
how old are you??
PiFfYmYpIFfPiFf
35
PiFfYmYpIFfPiFf
Okay from a fashion point of view would you wear a beehive hair do walking down the street these days? You would likely draw alot attention. I have to admit they were ugly. My aunt once had one. She hasn't sported it in years though.
icecreamisyummy
why does it matter
PiFfYmYpIFfPiFf
I doesn't. I am allowed to give my opinions though.
MissFits
I really like those styles. I think its good that some people don't have to follow the fashion trends and fit into what everyone else wants them to be. I say things like swell and hep cat. Sure, you don't hear it that often anymore, but why would I want to sound and look just like everyone else?
PiFfYmYpIFfPiFf
Okay I see your point. Like I said its my opinion and here we are allowed to express that. Maybe looking like your from the 1960's is ok but I do think looking like your from the 18th century would look severly out of place. I will admit bellbottoms were ugly. Again thats me ok.
MissFits
I don't hate you for thinking that. It's fine that you have your opinion. I don't really care about being fashionable, but I know people that do. I prefer bell bottoms to regular pants I think they are more comfy, but I do own some straight legs. I guess it's a personal preference.
brooklyneast05
i think u should just get over it. ur 35 and sound 15, it doesn't really matter what someone wants to wear.

Its ok MissFits. No probs. I always thought people look liked would trip on their bell bottoms while walking. LOL!
StandardEdition
why should it matter when fashion isnt even up to date?
I mean, we're in the 21st century and we're still dressing like we're in the 80's.

It depends on how you wear them. I don't like elephant pants, but I do like flare legged jeans AKA bell bottoms. I think when I say bell bottoms people think elephant pants, and that's not really the case.

And PureImagination, how do people dress like they are in the eighties?
Uronacid
It depends, I mean. Some people are good at it, but there are definitely people who aren't. My landlord still wears all denim clothing.

Amy Winehouse does. laugh.gif

I disagree with people that want everyone to be 'with the times' all the time; diversity is beautiful and some of the quirkiest and interesting characters I know are stuck firmly in the days of their youth - the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Hell, that was when real music came into play.
dannyordinary
This thread is basically pointless...it's called not following
trends, dressing how you want to. I admire that.

Leave em alone, let em be.

Like omg, what a disaster you must have been through.

I get told I dress like I'm in the 70's and I'm only 19. They say its because of all of the concert shirts or other shirts of mine with band logos on them. I don't see how that is a big deal.

Lol. I'll get right on that when my camera works.

Are you a pot head?
xtwitchyx
No. I know I don't need drugs to act the way that I do. This just comes naturally to me.

All i see now are preppy, or some other bs style, eventhough it's with the time but look so damn bad.

wtf, people still dress preppy? Actually, what is your definition of preppy? Wearing A&F and similar brands? laugh.gif
icecreamisyummy
i hate this topicccccccc
EddieV
Agreed
livwho
I actually couldn't care less about what my superiors/elders wear. Who cares if they're stuck in time?
A nice appearance is a privelage. Some people were just born without fashion sense. shrug.gif

What point are you trying to prove here? That people shouldn't be allowed to dress as they want?
1angel3
Remember! People wear clothes that fits the body type better and what's look good on them. Belly shirts may be the trend right now, but I don't expect a heavy set women to wear it. Everyone doesn't like the same things.
BrittanyDonalyn
Your point is kind of lost here.. Because "dressing with the times" isn't really correct. From the looks of today's fashion, we're all recycling the 60's and other various styles. Big hair, bright colors, big hip belts, large sunglasses...

A&f, Hollister, American Eagle, to sum it up. WHITE CLOTHES!! loool.gif loool.gif

Dude, that's not preppy. mellow.gif That's called "trendy" because their clothes target a specific group of people and certain trends. Although those trends aren't that great anyway, but still. Those trends are wearing out anyway. I'll let Eddie (Sulfur) define the meaning of preppy, if he replies in this thread again.

lmao @ white clothes. Elba, y'hear that? Hollister is white clothes. ohmy.gif

Anyways.... Wow, why isn't this in Interests > Fashion? Even if it's directed towards how people act, I think we're only talking about how people dress and do their hair. =X
PiFfYmYpIFfPiFf
Okay Im sorry that I have upset some of you by this topic. I feel I have done that. i am new here and i don't want to create any enemies here. I guess maybe your right it depends on the individual on how to dress but I did have a teacher one time in school (back in 1979) who wore her hair in a style that resembled George Washington. Even back then a hairstyle like that would stick out like a sore thumb. I will have to admit looking like George Washington and considering the teacher was a woman was a bit freaky looking. But that is just the way Im thinking though.
sheridan_whiteside
Any girl who did her hair like it was the 18th Century would give me so many boners it's not even funny.
Insurmountable
moved to fashion.
Peanups
I don't understand what this topic is even talking about.
Things that are 'trendy' now were mostly from decades ago.

Are you talking about people who dress up like pirates...
hmm... reminds me of wife swap..

agreed.

Please don't bash others on how they dress. Sure, you can say that you dislike their appearance but don't go too far, it's too mean.

If i say it's preppy/white clothes, then it's white clothes. STFU or GIT OUT

lol noob.

rolleyes.gif

Elba, you're wearing white clothes!
sourire
You're 35? That's crazyy you sounded so young!
Ha well...there are certain styles I wish people wouldn't wear, but once you see them in it everyday it'd be weird to see them dress any other way. I like people who dress/act a bit quirky.
Ravendark
But dressing out of the times just means they are hip and retro! ;p
