I am trying to set up a tracker for my journal, but it cannot be verified; I tried refreshing, but it just asks me if the site even exists.

Is this a bug or just me?
Atalaya
I tried it on a few other usernames, but only mine wont work.

Could it be the layout I have?

If you're still here, we were trying to test this, but we need your LJ username. If you can post it or PM it to me, I'll look into it for you.
IVIike
are you talking about the cB tracker?
libertie
It has to be the CB tracker, because when it does the "cannot verify site" thing, it says, "Does it even exist?"
IVIike
then this should be in cB support _smile.gif

I'm having the same problem. At first the tracker told me my site didn't exist. I found the FAQ and switched it to S1, at which time tracker started saying "missing site". So I switched it back to S2 and it is still saying "missing site".

My LJ username is sheltiewoman; let me know if I can help debug this.

Thanks!

Have you gone through these steps?

Livejournal Tracker - known issues and solutions;
  • It says "unable to verify site, does it exist?" when I try to get the code.
    This is most often a problem with the tracker understanding S2 layouts. In most cases, you can go and temporarily change your layout style back to S1, and this will fix the problem. Then, once you get the code for your layout, you can switch back to S2. If that doesn't work, are you on a Sponsored account? We don't know yet if that causes a problem, but try moving your account back to basic. If that works, please let us know, because that will confirm the question of whether or not account types affect the tracker! If none of these solutions work for you, please post a topic and we'll do our best to help you. Hopefully in a future version of the tracker, these problems will be fixed.
  • Where do I put the tracker code?
    You can follow the instructions and put it in your userinfo page, but if you want it in your layout, you may add it to your existing LASTN_WEBSITE section. If you don't already have that in your code, you may add it like this:

    LASTN_WEBSITE<=
    <p><a href='http://www.createblog.com/tracker/index.php?id=71828' title='Livejournal Tracker'>
    <img src='http://www.createblog.com/tracker/track71828.jpg' border='0' alt='Livejournal Tracker' /></a><a href='http://www.createblog.com/layouts/index.php?layout=livejournal_layouts' title='Livejournal Layouts'>
    <img src='http://www.createblog.com/images/link2.gif' border='0' alt='Livejournal Layouts' /></a></p>
    <=LASTN_WEBSITE

    Of course, it may be different for some layouts, so if it doesn't work for you, please post ALL of your code and a link to your journal so we can help!

janineanne
Yes, I have. I tried switching to S1 and back, as I described in my original post, and my account is already Basic.

LJ is blocked from where I'm at currently, but can you post your code? Dani (libertie) is really good with LJ and can probably help you out more efficiently that way (in combination with looking at your LJ, thanks for posting the name of it, by the way. That will help I'm sure)
janineanne
I didn't get to the point of having any code - this was at

http://www.createblog.com/tracker/setup.php

Since it wasn't able to access my journal, I didn't get any farther.
libertie
I have figured out just now that there's actually a way to bypass this - I'll add it to the FAQ momentarily.

Basically, when you go to setup the tracker, choose website, and enter in yourusername.livejournal.com as the URL.

Then when it brings you to the page, you should see your Tracker ID # as the last part of the URL at the top. Copy that and paste it into this code:

LASTN_WEBSITE<=
<p><a href='http://www.createblog.com/tracker/index.php?id=######' title='Livejournal Tracker'>
<img src='http://www.createblog.com/tracker/track######.jpg' border='0' alt='Livejournal Tracker' /></a><a href='http://www.createblog.com/layouts/index.php?layout=livejournal_layouts' title='Livejournal Layouts'>
<img src='http://www.createblog.com/images/link2.gif' border='0' alt='Livejournal Layouts' /></a></p>
<=LASTN_WEBSITE

(of course, that's for S1 - if you're using S2, you may just take out the WEBSITE tags)

Should work immediately. Let me know how it goes!
janineanne
So close... it says "Only official members may track websites". I guess I'm unofficial...
libertie
I didn't think about that, but you're right, tracking personal websites is a feature for official members.. =\

Hmm.. What if you tried it for a different LJ account and then put the code for that on your journal? Unfortunately, I've only been able to duplicate this problem once, and the way I was able to fix it was by switching to S1 to get the code. I would recommend trying different account settings and see if anything you do helps. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, this is one of the things Jusun needs to look at.

Please let us know if anything works for you!
