So how many of you are applying to an art school after high school? Which schools and why!
Have you guys heard any good things about The Art Institute?

I go an Art Institute school but if you're looking a more refined fine arts based school I would suggest you seriously looking into Ringling, SCAD, RISD.
What's your planned major?
If you're serious about art, do not go to an art institute, and do not apply to an art school that does not even look at your artwork or review your portfolio.
I am planning on attending RISD or Parsons.
A few of my friends went to Savannah (however it's spelled) and they looove it. I'm not sure if they require a portfolio, though.

Two of my teachers are alumni from SCAD. If I recall correctly, I believe you do have to show a portfolio there as well. But yeah, I've heard very good things about to the school too.

SCAD is pretty good, I'm quite sure they require a portfolio. I know a few people there, being from GA and all. It's a pretty cool place, and a good art school. I know a couple of my artistic friends get a bit pretentious about it because, they say, it's really expensive and it's not necessarily the best...but I'm pretty sure it is a very good art school

Well, I'm pretty conflicted about The Art Insititute. Sure, their pamplet designs draw you in, but any time I have ever needed an answer from them that required some substance, I have never really got one.
But I only talked to a rep from Houston who came from my school, so it could be different. It really depends on what you want from a school, like if you want a more traditional education in whatever major you are in, the art institutes may not fit you, they are designed to get you out and about as quick as possible.

Sounds about right.
As I explained the original maker via pm, some art institutes are way better, more established, and have better resources than some others. And while I attend one, I would definitely encourage anyone who is willing to spend the money at an Art Institute to look into more established and renowned schools first, especially the ones that have already been mentioned in this thread.

i know, i was so disappointed.
which ai do you go to? and do you know which ones are better?
i basically have a choice between dallas or houston, and maybe seattle.
i would prefer dallas to houston because dallas is closer.
and today i looked at RISD. fell in love. but i doubt i can go all the way to rhode island.

I go to the Tampa campus.
The general consensus I have from doing research is that the Fort Lauderdale, Seattle, Orange County, and Philadelphia campuses are the best campuses to attend because they are longer established, having teachers that are leaders in their field, and have ample resources in finding you jobs and internships.
I heard about one of the Art Institute campuses in Texas coming under fire about something a year ago. I want to say it was the Dallas campus, but I'm not sure. Yes, I believe was the Dallas campus.
Yes, RSID is niiiice.

Yeah the AI schools aren't very good. I wouldn't advise going to one.
My top choice is RIT, they have one of the top photography programs in the world. My second would probably be BSMFA.
