Do you have a cd that came with your dell that restores to factory default? I had one come w/ my toshiba that I just popped in whenever I felt like reformatting. If not, you'll have to use a copy of windows.
Pop in the windows cd, be it home or professional, and boot it from that cd. Erase your current partition and create a new one, then install windows on it. From there it's self explanatory.

^ Yes, It's probably that one. You'll also need your drivers CD. I suggest calling up dell to help you step by step with it though because they seem to know what they're doing. I've had to reformat my computer about 5 times and it was usually with the help of dell, although I cannot remember the steps on how to access the menu to boot, install the CD.

Some new dells have two parition for a harddrive. the second partition is usually the Dell Ghost image of Windows. I myself called up Dell got a free copy of their Window CD for a Dell PC.
The Dell Dimension Resource CD is just the drivers. Not the reformat cd. You should have a cd that has windows on it, I believe a system recovery cds. If you don't know,, call or tall to Dell.
Dom't reformat until you VERIFY u have the cds.

There should be a maroon CD that says
"Reinstallation CD
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Including Service Pack (Whichever one it came with)"
Mine came with, 1a, so I have to do updates like a bitch every time.
Or you can go buy Windows Vista, but I've heard that sucks ass too.
