hahah but if the egg came first, who born dat egg?

An egg was laid by another species that had a mutation.. the mutation was found favorable by the environment and survived to become what is now known as the chicken while the original species died out.. thus the egg came before the chicken

well then the first "prototype" or w/e you wanna call it of the chicken was the other species with the mutation which laid the egg, even technically it wasnt exactly a chicken it had to have the correct genes to lay an actual chicken

No.. it was another species.. not a chicken..

If you want to be technical and argue that the chicken came before the chicken egg... then sure, I agree.. but eggs were in existence far longer than chickens were

What if...

The chicken was the mutation, as opposed to the egg being the mutation?

That way, the chicken was mutated into... the chicken and they laid the egg?

Uh.. I actually don't know if that's possible. Ignore me.

Yeah.. I dont think that's possible..

There'd have to be extremely unusual circumstances for that to happen.. and I'm still not sure natural selection works that way..

With natural selection, I think the chicken have a better chance of surviving and protecting its egg and chicks. While the egg is practically useless... well.. except for the proteins... but that's another story.

Err.. I dont think you get it..

Its not comparing the chicken or the egg.. its comparing the chicken and the species that came before it..

Some mutation in the eggs of the previous species was obviously favorable and thus the species died out and the chicken survived

It's like saying what came first the baby or the adult. Which will later bring the whole topic of God or Evolution

But you know what I noticed? When they make movies where something is created (alien or mutated life form), that creation usually is in the form of its earliest stage...

Haha.. that would be Hollywood

What do you mean by earliest stage? You're talking radical mutation.. natural selection utilizes gradual mutation

Okay, you're talking gibberish... because I don't seem to understand those words... g-r-a-d-u-a-l mutation....

I meant they grow test tube babies into adults, and little furbies grew up to be ugly and killer furbies... i can't seem to remember one valid example... ignore me, please.

Haha sorrie

Basically what I'm saying is that in the movies, something is mutated some way to create this radically different (and usually dangerous) new species

In real life, it doesnt work that way..

Mutations are very gradual.. some huge change (like fish to land) simply doesnt happen.. it takes several steps.. several thousand years of natural selection weeding out the weak for the favorable mutations to dominate and thrive while the unfavorable die off
Sumiaki
Geeze dont you guys recall Darwin in bio class? Deeng seriously.

1. They adapt to conditions
2. There are mutations (sometimes good sometimes bad)
The beneficial mutated ones live because they are "better" than their ancestor. Think of it as competition. As the ancestors die off, the mutated ones become the norm. The cycle keeps goin and goin. Mutations are natural, like animals with more arms/legs and such. You just dont see alot of em around cuz the extra arm/leg is usually useless. I can go on and on but ill stop here. happy.gif

egg.. because.. chickens come from eggs
School_Boy
Well....the chicken needs to be born from an egg but then an egg needs to come out from the chicken......so....it would be neither....rite? huh.gif

Dinosaur eggs produce dinosaurs, dude.
The mutated dinosaur egg(chicken egg) produces chicken.

And typing in CAPS don't make you sound any smarter.
In fact, it makes you sound like an illiterate trying to throw yourself in a conversation.

Did the question ask specifically for chicken eggs? The topic merely states "Chicken or Egg"

Ooh.. I see you're a mod once again.. whistling.gif

hehe...
I have the all-truthful answer to the question:
What came first... the chicken or the egg?
The answer is simple you see...
The egg came first... the chicken second...
Breakfast comes before dinner... DUH!

ya..thats what i was thinking..
xcaitlinx
egg. because for a chicken to be created, there must be a source. that source being a hatched egg.
pAtRiCk_sTar
Egg came first....cause then the chicken couldn't have formed out of nothing, right? rolleyes.gif
picaso_smile
Whichever one came first, poped out of nowhere. If the egg came first it would never get passed an egg stage. It would need a mother chicken to help incuabate it.

It's no the chicken or the egg. It's two chickens.

Oooorr... to support my opinion literally... "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" The chicken of course. Because "the chicken" came before "the egg".
Tada!
heyyfrankie
the egg. after the chicken hatched, then it made more eggs! happy.gif

i dont understand where this one reappeared from, but it was definitely closed before because theres other ones elsewhere, and i was deemed as not enough of a debate
