HI ERRRYBUDDAY!

Well, not everybody. :P Just the Senior kiddos. So, let's talk about the oh-so fun application process. -.-

Has anyone started on anything? Personal statement? Common App? :]
Tung
If anyone needs help with their college apps or personal statement, I actually have mines for you to read for a guide or example. This was the personal statement that made me get accepted to UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, and UC Davis. :)
karmakiller
I haven't started my applications yet, but I'm not applying to schools that are really hard to get into. I'm retaking my ACT soon, so after that I'll apply. I'm hoping I do better on my ACT because I actually plan to study this time pinch.gif
HakunaMatata
^Oooh, how was it the first time? I heard it's like "Omg don't look at the clock you'll lose like two seconds!" :X
stephinika
For some reason, applying to places in the US seems more complicated than here...but maybe thats just me.
salcha4u
I finished my UC prompts and filling out the CommonApp info...and half done with my personal statement. AHHHH SCU EA IS DUE IN TWO WEEKS. And I haven't even started the supplement. :( :( :(
karmakiller
Kaycee - I didn't study and I got a 21, which is around what a lot of my friends got. I was really worried about time, which made me get really nervous. They expect you to read and remember graphics and statistics and then answer 45 questions in 30 minutes about it. To me, I thought it was crazy. Since I'm Special Ed. I can opt for extended time. So I think I might do that. If I pair that with studying, I'm bound to get a better score.

Ahhhh I ran out of time for SO many sections on the ACT.

Same here. My uber-geeky friends are all applying to American universities, and worrying about SATs. I'm like...f**k that, I'm not taking any SATs. I figure I'll apply to a local university now, do well, and get another degree elsewhere. It's the final degree that counts, anyway. So it's just UBC/SFU for me now, although most likely UBC.
misoshiru
My school didn't require SAT scores. They were optional.

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with either UBC or SFU. They are good uni's so whatever. *shrug* They're fine. What are you going into? _smile.gif

Dooon't worry about it, it's like, a page long. I'm doing EA for SCU, tooooooo.

In fact, all of the private colleges that I'm applying to I'm doing EA, just to get everything over with. So that's USF, USD, UoP, and SCU. Oooh, and now I'm looking at the Claremont colleges.
freeflow
I hate it. Its stressing me out and I'm trying to work on the personal statement but everytime it I come up with something I just hate it. Hopefully I can finally get something together. I can't wait till this whole thing is over.
HakunaMatata
^Oh, I know the feeling real well. jfkldsajf;lksafjdlajlsafdsa

And honestly, the stress doesn't end for a looong while, because once you get in, you have to keep it up so your admission doesn't get revoked. sad.gif
freeflow
So true. I think I'll be able to handle that better than now. Thats my goal tonight. Work on my personal statement. Not like I'm going to get anywhere. ermm.gif

I'm doing EA for USD and SCU too!! :) How's progress?
Heh I haven't started the supplement for EITHERRRRR.
HakunaMatata
Uh, Common App is going okay. Just need to finish the resume so I can hand it off to my counselor and teachers and I *should* be good to go.

And yoooo, you might as well apply to UoP! It's free. :]
ersatz
I haven't actually applied anywhere yet, but I just got done with my UChicago essays and I'm applying Early Action there so I'll get those in right quick.
karmakiller
I just got back from Iowa. I visted Drake University and I really like it. There's only 3,000 students there and the campus is gorgeous and people in Des Moines are so nice throb.gif Then I went UI where it's in the city and they have 30,000 students. Now I have something to compare other places to. I'm going to hate living in dorms.
CowerPointyObjects
Dorms really aren't that bad at all. If nothing else, I really like being able to knock on people's doors to have them do things with me, rather than having to constantly call people. Being able to walk downstairs and know there'll be someone to talk to at any hour of the night is nice too.

Sammi, I know we've discussed colleges before, but where all are you actually going to apply?
rorhinna
I've been applying all week.
I've had the week off from the fires,
so I decided to take advantage of the
time. heh.
I still gotta write a few essays,
waiting on some letters of reccomendation
but then I think I'll be done?

Sammi, one word: gah-freaking-damn. :O

You're applying to three Ivies.

I'm assuming Butler is your safety?

What? Free app fee? Why? :O
Eh, I wwould only go to UoP if I was interested in pharmacy though.

Butler and Boston, yeah. I decided I should apply to at least one school in my state.
HakunaMatata
SALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Tell me you finished the SCU app on time!

Oh, wth, I should've checked Facebook first.

Anyway, I submitted mine at 11:45 p.m. CommonApp is telling me I did it on November 2nd....NO. I turned it on time for EA, dammnit.
salcha4u
Yep, got it in at 8PM. For the supplement, I thought it was 500 words...not 500 characters. That was a lot of editing );

And CommonApp runs on EST.
HakunaMatata
I knowww, but I was praying that SCU runs on PST. :/
salcha4u
Ok so I totally did not follow my own advice and submitted my USD app on 10PM PST Nov 15...and it said that my app was submitted "Nov 16" which would be late. WHATEVER STUPID COMMONAPP I'M DONE WITH YOU FOREVER!!!

Now, time to die with UC's & CSU's.
ESSAY GRINDING TIME!
ersatz
So I got rejected from UChicago. DePaul maybe?
Flaunted
Aww i'm sorry that you got rejected ):
But still sticking to illinois?
MAYBE I WILL GET A CHANCE TO SEE YOU MAYBE?

Love:OtherSammie
ersatz
Hoshit, that's you? Hi!

Yeah, I really want to go to Chicago, so that's where I'm sticking. UChicago people are poopieheads.

Until I apply to grad school...
innovation
Trust me--for college admissions, things work out in the end. Unless you're a slacker. So, yeah.. don't be a slacker.
karmakiller
Chicago people are weird. Otherwise, I'd totally go to school in Chicago. I don't really want to stay in Wisconsin, but UWGB sounds so cozy.
ersatz
What's wrong with Chicago people?...
karmakiller
Lol, I go down to Chicago a lot and I guess they're just different... especially downtown Chicago people. They don't have as much road rage as Madison people, though, but Chicago people can be mean.
ersatz
Anyone can be mean, haha. It's a city.

Sorry I'm being so defensive, but it's like, "the city" to me so...

Really, Chicago people are known for being nice. NYC people are the ones known to be mean. The only time I can think of Chicago people being construed as mean is if you don't understand how to cross the street. If you don't make sure cars aren't coming, people will hit you. *shrug*
Jeng
HAHA WELL I FINSIHED MY APPLICATIONS in november, early november and i applied middle of november for REGULAR DECIOSION, applied early for regular. yoyoyoyoy. and i got one reply back, and i got in, MUH MAJUH IS NURSING.

Actually, NYC was named politest city in the world around 2006/2007. Compared to Boston, NYC is pretty freaking nice. Those Massholes..

Good luck, kiddos. thumbsup.gif
