There's something that I don't get and it kind of bugs me. Presidents are supposed to do things for the people right? No matter what party they are, they should do what the majority of the people want them to do right? When 911 happened, almost everybody in the country cried war or for something to happen. Then after realizing it wouldn't be over in a day, they changed their minds. If anything, he was doing what the people asked him to do. Nobody will admit it though. People are too busy expecting things to be over fast, or finding ways to form protests, or some are busy denying that they were once for something like this to happen.

Also, I don't understand these people who want peace on earth. There's other countries who still have on going wars, wars we aren't even involved in or have anything to do with us. It's been going on since the beginning of time. Don't some of these "peace" wanting people understand that peace on earth is nothing more than wishful thinking or a dream? Do they also realize that a lot of their protests don;t really help and can sometimes make matters worse?

This is probably why I'm not much of a people person. Nobody seems to know what they want or what they are doing anymore.

^I agree with you, and I'm very much a people person. Most people are into fads. They don't want to do things for the long haul. They're more interested in the short run as opposed to the long run. Once something goes wrong, or doesn't happen the way they wanted, they want the short run changed, but don't realize that resources have already been dedicated to the long run and you can't just enter or exit what you've begun.

There are some very serious issues with your argument. First off, you totally misrepresent the role of the president. The president is not merely the whim of the majority. He is his own man, and, while he should be expected to listen to his people, he should not favor the interests of the majority over the minority simply because they are the majority. In fact, ideally, given our constitution and political heritage, the president would listen very closely to the minority as well as the majority. The president should interpret the wishes of the people and have the knowledge, foresight, and bravery to take the "right course" even if that course happens to be unpopular. Given your ideal presidency, America would have never grown. The abolitionists movement, the civil rights movement, suffrage, etc. etc.

Secondly, you don't seem to be taking into account the reality that the people were lied to. If the majority came any sort of conclusion on misinformation, why should such an ill-conceived conclusion have such force? If a people are lied to and don't, in the first place, have the education or ability to form a meaningful and useful conclusion, why should the president be expected to follow their whim?

Lastly, don't you realize the issue that if you're going to say the majority is the king, then, right now, we should be withdrawing from Iraq?
