i know how to do this in paintshop pro, but right now im using photoshop. how do you make an image black and white but have something thats still colored? like the lips or dress or hair or something.

Easiest way (IMO) is to duplicate the layer, set the top one to greyscale and erase the parts that you want colored.

sorry, but thats not working. it asks me to flatten the image, but if i do, well, it gets flattened so there is no point. but if i dont flatten it then both the base layer and the duplicate get grayscaled, which, also would be no point.
ive tried this before i thnk ive even tried using the lasso tool. and inverting the selection and everything.
if it helps, im working on adobe photoshop 6.0

You can open two documents of that image, grayscale one, then copy the coloured one onto the grayscaled one so that it's a new layer and then switch the layers. What she said is also the easiest way for me as well. Also, use a hard round brush. I think it's easier than the lasso tool, but whatever floats your boaaaat.
