Part of the unification project, a channel-bridge built over the River Elbe, located in the city of Magdeburg, near Berlin, joins the former East Germany and West Germany. The bridge took six years to build, and cost 500 million euros. The 918-meter long water bridge will enable river barges to avoid a lengthy and sometimes unreliable passage along the Elbe.
The photo was taken on the day of inauguration.

This is like the exact opposite of what I just saw in an email.

The cars when through a tunnel, under water so that boats could pass by without any trouble.
