Well first thing in swimming (professionally speaking) is to learn how to float. First try to float on your back and on your stomach. Don't be scared to open your eyes underwater either (unless there's a lot of chlorine in the water, you can smell it if there is). Also do not stiffin up, don't try to add your weight like you're tryin to sink. Try to stay as light as possible and relaxed. And don't try to lay straight as a board, it won't work.

Also don't be scared if the first few time you try to float on your back and fail only to go underneath the water. Some people can't handle going underneath the water facing upwards lol. So expect it, hold your breath and don't panic :)

Once you learn how to float, you'll know how to swim. How do I know this for sure? Because you'll realize a system of how to throw your arms so that they act like paddles of a boat.

You can't swim until you know how to float, that's the golden rule of swimming. Once you float, everything else becomes easy.

By the way, I like to swim like a dolphin. I make my body as aerodynamic as possible by either leaving my arms at my sides of my body, or sides of my head with my index fingers touching. And using my legs to propel forward by moving them up and down as powerful as I can (like a dolphin) this is good for strength, fast twitch muscles, and endurance.

Dude, Danny ...
How cool can you be?

In swimming, it's about your body being flexible, relaxed, and not stiff in the pool?

Yeah just be relaxed when floating. When you start to swim, you really can't be relaxed, you'll definitely get a work out from swimming thumbsup.gif

One way to know that your legs alone can propel you forward in swimming; is by holding onto the edge of the pool, and kicking your legs up and down, once you do it smoothly and quickly enough (not too fast) you'll notice that your body will try to swim towards the edge _smile.gif

I'm a horrible swimmer. I know the basic things, I suppose enough to get me to the safe and dry land. Pffft, I wouldn't deliberatly go somewhere I might drown.

Moved to Sports.

I love swimming. I'm not the best at speed, but I can float!
