how do you get that effect, on the top image (the whole)
where it seems like it was cut out. a lot of layouts have this
and I wasn wondering how to do it. I was trying to do it with
a brush and make the brush a shape set (but ii guess you can't do that)

What program ish ya using?

Because, you can get that effect by using a clipping mask, if I'm understanding you correctly.

Or..you can just take a lasso, and select the areas you don't want shown and hit the delete button.

you can actually do it in any program, even ms paint. it's the cutting-out part.
