this tracker (myspace) shows someone visited me from Herndon, VA, and that they were from my friend list. There is no one on my friend list that is in VA. more specifically, the IP associated with that visit is my friend who lives in the same town as me, in TEXAS!
so how or why is the tracker telling me wrong locations for the IP address? It's not very accurate. Can someone please explain to me? thank you.

The trackers are acting up right now but maybe the person on your friends list was on a computer that's out of town. Maybe they're on vacation and they visited your page.

if the trackers are acting up, then i'll wait a while and see if things get straigtened out. no, my friend is right here in town... thanks for the idea, tho.

You will rarely ever get the actual city where the person visits from, its all dependent on the isp, you will have to cross-reference the ip and time stamp with any messages or comments you get.

yes, i think that's what i'm gonna have to do. this cross referencing is going to be my project for the week!
thanks.

hi,

the tracker geolocation for usa is 99% accurate except for aol isp users. aol routes all internet traffic through reston, virginia, so the tracker is unable to determine the actual state and city for those people.
