Full Version: Adopting a Soldier

So I was thinking about "adopting a soldier" or getting a soldier pen pal. I'm nervous about it though because of my views of the war, and also because of my age. I'm 18 and naive. What would I possibly say? Would I even be a good pen pal?

Heres the website:

What do you think? Maybe all of creatblog should give it a try, and write about it here.

I think this is a great way to keep in touch with the troups at war. thumbsup.gif I've always wanted to have a pen pal. I think you should go for it. They said that 50% of them reply! That's a good chance.
KayleighKins
Yeah :D

I just wanted someone to do it with me to compare experiences.

Thanks for the link. I'm doing it.
KayleighKins
Sweet, then so am I.

Edit: I just finished my letter :D

For some reason it's really exciting. And you say your shy, but your on an online forum! Haha, if you can write posts you can write letters. biggrin.gif

I'm soo excited. There is a waiting period where they find you a soldier and then they e-mail you the information. I plan to pack all sorts of crap in it.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. But it's really just like having a friend over the internet. You talk about yourself, you ask about the other person. Like, seriously, I dare you to start writing a letter to a soldier right now. Keep it upbeat and happy.

It's easy.

From the website:
Share personal stories. I liked it when people told me about themselves, or sent family photos. Of course,
soldiers are busy, and some are not great letter-writers by nature. However, it will probably increase your
chances of getting a letter back if you:

. Show the soldier you want to get to know him or her. Ask questions about their hobbies and interests.

. Include your e-mail address because it may be easier for them to write back via the computer.

. Be sure to ASK them to write back!

When we all get our soldiers letters I want to have people to talk about it with.

I'd do it, but I already mail enough stuff over there and write enough emails. I suppose that the website thing wouldn't be as personal as with people that you know, but it's great to show them support. Mail them some booze and cigs tongue.gif

No - it's just that I don't know much about the war, and I don't know what I'd say to a solder :T I feel like I would be rejected or something LAWL T_T :K
