I want to be hosted by a domain, but before i apply or anything i need to learn about FTP. i know it's transferring information and all, but i want to know how to use one. Can anyone take the time to explain to me thoroughly about how to use an FTP?

Getting an FTP software (like the ones listed in the 3rd link) would probably be easiest.
