So, I have thick hair. like, really thick. It seems like my hair only looks decent when it's straight. But, it won't stay straight .... is it because I have such thick hair ? or do I have to put something in it ? like, I put hairspray in sometimes but even then it gets wavy.

If it's because of my thick hair, are there any haircuts that will make it look thinner ? hahahaha.

Well, my friend had the same problem so she got a specific haircut. This is hard to explain for me, but I'll try my best. She layered from the inside of her hair to the out.

My hair's the same way, except mine's really curly. I use a straightening moose before blow drying... then a straightning spray on each layer when I go to straighten it. Then I use a hair spray that prevents the humidity.

Always alwaaays use hair spray.

go to your hair stylist and ask her to think your hair out. sometimes they use a razor to really think it out. like the top part will be a lil thick (great for body!) but the ends will be thinner. just ask them what to do, they're pros!
as for products, use products for thick hair, not stuff that makes your hair thick duh lol. you can even use products for african american hair. they have thicker conditioners to make it smooth. but yeah if you want straight hair, this is what i typically use: leave in conditioner after washing, mousse or serum for smoothness. blow dry or air dry and use a straightener. if you have some money to spend, invest in the CHI flat iron...it's a product from god himself lol. then use a little bit of hairspray to hold. that should do it! but products (besides hairspary) are your friends!!

I am a person with THICK hair and I would NOT recommend getting your hair layered because it takes FOREVER for it to get back to one length.
I recommend having a stylist thin out your hair.

I have thick hair and what I did to limit it was to really thinned it out. So that way it's much light and it won't get as wavy as it would with a lot of hair.

Anyways. I have hella thick hair too. Sucks. When it gets a few inches long I get an AFRO! Sucks indeed. So when I get hair cuts etc they have these cool scissor things that are like those weird scissors you used in kindergarten and they thin out your hair majorly without making it look really weird.

Sadly I know teh answer to ^ and I'm a guy. Thinning makes it less thick all around, since you thin it @ roots. Layering means making it shorter at certain lengths of hair. Like so:

The 'kindergarten' scissors aren't for thinning, they're for making the hair choppy. Which can thin it, but it's not their purpose. =] Most stylists use razors for such a purpose.

Anyways, get hairspray that says something about working against humidity. When you use it, it should dry immediatly when it touches your hair, and it should feel like water.

Serum is excellent for humid areas, the only problem is, it's not too healthy for your hair. The best thing I've ever used is Vitamin E oil. It works just as well, if not better than most serums, and it makes your hair feel great.

Oh, and when you straighten your hair, don't play with it too much, that'll make it curl.

get lots of layers. you could always tease it and go for the scene style.

You can always get your hair thinned out.

actually, the scissors they use for thinning your hair do look a lot like those kindergarten scissors.

Getting your hair thinned is an option, but I didn't really like it because it's a pain to reach all the shorter hairs when you're straightening it.

definitely DON'T do layers, unless they're long layers on the bottom. They'll just make your hair poof.

Also another thinning method is where they get a lock of hair and kinda let it droop down on the sides of their fingers and take normal scissors and cut right in the middle, if that made any sense.

As an African American, I have very thick hair so I always get a Perm. Go to a perfessional to put it in for you, you have to know what you doing or you make your hair fall out, but don't let that scare you it rarely happens, so don't do it yourself, once you see hows its done, then try it yourself, I recommend "Just For Me" for kids, its not as harsh, just to see how your hair and skin reacts, if Just For me isn't strong enough try "Dark n Lovely" for women. i think i have pretty thick hair..lol you should really talk to your hairstylist. ask him/her to thin out your hair? have you tried that yet? lol. and perhaps it's the type of straightener you use? some work for different types of hairs. i went through quite a few straighteners until i found one that finally worked. it was expensive, but it was worth it lol. i use a Chi iron. :)

im no hairdresser, but cant the lady just like, thinin' it out for you? i know when i get a hair cut she does something to my hair cause mines pretty thick.

You can buy Herbal Essence, they have a straignting shampoo and conditoner, and a SPRAY, that keeps it straigt, BELIEVE ME. i have this kind of hair, and it works.
