Full Version: Graduation Presents

Okay, so a lot of my friends are graduating from high school this year and I have no idea what to get them for their presents.

Does anyone have any ideas? My mom suggested like a Circuit City or Best Buy Gift Card, or like stuff to bring with them to college from places like Linens and Things... but I think the whole Linens and Things is a more girly thing, and I'm shopping for guys... and I feel like gift cards and money aren't personal enough.

What does everyone else think? I guess post presents for both genders that way other people can benefit from the topic too :]

is there a hallmark nearby? they always have a huge section of graduation gifts.

Even though money wouldn't be very personal, it's probably what they need the most.

This is more something you'd only be able to do if you had time, but I had, over the years, shot many, many photos of my closest senior friend- so I printed them all out at a nearby shop, and assembled a collage of photos, movie tickets to movies we'd enjoyed, concert tickets, etc. on a big poster board and wrote a big long "farewell" letter to them in the middle of it.

For another friend, I got a big scrapbook put together with some friends- we all wrote a long, personal letter (unlike yearbook signings, which we all felt too rushed to properly do) and then tied it together with ribbon.

I don't know, I guess I like giving more of the personal presents.

I didn't get anything for any of my friends, nor did anyone else, nor did anyone get anything for me haha. My parents took me to dinner and got me a laptop for college, but I guess that was more of a birthday thing since I was born in good ol June. I really think that the majority of people who give presents on graduation are people who have established themselves and are earning a steady income.

i graduated this year.

the best thing to give them is cash. you can never go wrong with cash.

and they'll definitely be needing it with college next year and all ><

I suppose. I mean cash is the easiest and best gift.. it just seems so impersonal. I suppose I'd have rather give a gift that they can get and be like wow this is a good gift! and it not be the same gift received from anyone else. Oh well.

And doing a scrap book seems like a good idea. Hmm. I'll have to figure it out.

Thanks everyone :]

Why presents? o.O Just go out somewhere for dinner.

The only people I got grad gifts for were my best friends and boyfriend of the time. Nothing big though, just sentimental stuff. Gift certificates are always good though too.

Usually when I cant think of gifts I just give money.

I get what you mean about the personal thing, but money WILL come in handy... make them like,a nice card, or scrapbook or something to go with it, rather than just buying a gift.

money.. who doesnt want money?

After thinking about it for awhile, I decided I'm going to give my commuting friend a gas station gift card for all his driving home, and a set of ping pong balls... for some college fun. And my other friend I'll give an American Express gift card... and some ping pong balls.

Orrrr... I'll get them both cologne, because that way, they will at least smell really good around me while they are still home :]

I love how undecided I am.

OK so....

I made all my seniors hand drawn cards. (screw hallmark when you have a little bit of a talent for drawing) each with a personal message.
I don't have a lot of money, so I'm going to be buying somewhat cheap things, but things that they'll remember for sure. like I'm getting my friend a stuffed duck that quacks when you sqeeze it, and dressing it up like its graduating. It's really fun! _smile.gif

I would give gift cards or cash and maybe a nice card or something to make it personal _unsure.gif
